Yahoo News Japan Opposition Leader Ready to Meet Bush, pull Iraq troops Thu Aug 25, 3:47 AM ET TOKYO (AFP) - The leader of Japan's main opposition party has said a victory in next month's election means Japanese troops out of Iraq -- and he wants to meet George W. Bush to tell him so.

The Japanese are scheduled to pull out anyway, in December, the candidate is just standing by that. Yes that should make him popular since the incumbant is threatening to extend their committment.

Japanese troops, barred by Japan's post-war pacifist constitution from using force except in the strictest definition of self-defence, have suffered no casualties and have not fired a shot.

Besides, this war has NOTHING to do with "Self-Defense". It is a war of hegemony, not survival. I dont care what the pseudo-christo-neo-fascist brigade believes. They have a right to be wrong, but not to declare pre-emptive war of aggression.

I have long suspected that the Japanese were BLACKMAILED into sending troops. I believe they were threatened 'in the nicest possible way' with the with drawn of US troops from Japan to face the 'Red Menace' alone. Similar tactics probably applied to other nations. The appearance of an 'Alliance' was very important.

With how things turned out in Iraq, few are prepared to face elections with most anti-war, so the pull outs.

hahaha...yea right. Nobody stood a chance against the person who was there for America on 9/11. I do not care what Kerry did. I voted for him but I knew he would lose.

Also, this topic is flawed. This is an opposition party that will not likely win. The current Japanese government has no plans for a pullout, and Bush said yesterday that we will not leave Iraq on his watch.
