Chavez Offers Americans Cheap Fuel

Wednesday 24 August 2005, 10:08 Makka Time, 7:08 GMT

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, popular with the poor at home, has offered to help needy Americans with cheap supplies of petrol.

"We want to sell gasoline and heating fuel directly to poor communities in the United States," the populist leader said at the end of a visit to Communist-run Cuba on Tuesday.

Chavez did not say how Venezuela would go about providing petrol to poor communities.

Venezuelan state oil company PDVSA owns Citgo, which has 14,000 petrol stations in the United States.

The offer may sound attractive to Americans feeling pinched by soaring prices at the pump but not to the US government, which sees Chavez as a left-wing troublemaker in Latin America.

Petrol is cheaper than mineral water in oil-producing Venezuela, where consumers can fill their tanks for less than $2.

Read the rest, its good!.....
See.........If bush werent in bed with the greasy oilmen, he could do nioce things for the little guy too. The ones who have to decide if the will pay for electricity at home or gas to get to work.

Hail Chavez!!

What's really most interesting about this is that it makes it clear that communism and capitalism can't peacefully coexist side by side. And it's not because the communists are ever going to be able to interfere with the capitalist markets as Chavez seems to be indicating is his goal. No, the capitalist market will have to make sure that communism won't be allowed to bring any of it's influence at all into the U.S. The only question is, how will the U.S. stop him and what measures will it have to resort to in order to stop him.

In some ways this is a similar situation to the U.S./Canada situation where healthcare is provided for everyone in Canada and some in the U.S. are going bankrupt because they can't afford the care and medicines necessary for keeping people alive and well. Granted, the degree of similarity is small only because Canada doesn't threaten the U.S. system nearly as much as Chavez is threatening to do. Canada will sell cheap pharmaceuticals to the U.S. but the drug companies are in line with that to a large degree because it only enhances their own profit.

This is a situation with Chavez that the U.S. will need to find a remedy for as soon as possible. It's only foretelling of some of the other measures that Chavez is capable of taking against the U.S. system, such as cutting the U.S. off from it's Venezuelan oil supply. Due to the U.S. being embroiled in a war that's going to last for a good many years into the future, the U.S.' hands are probably tied when it comes to dealing militarily with Chavez. And that's the reason that Chavez is taking advantage of his moment in the sun along with Cuba to twist the knife a little.

Of course the U.S. is totally in agreement with Robertson but can't come out publicly and admit that they are. How stupid of Robertson to blow the cover and admit what the real agenda is for Venezuela and Chavez. A crude guess for a solution to the Chavez problem would be a Cruz missile on his home but unfortunately that would be very visible to the rest of the world. Better an assassination pulled off by some group that's not readily traceable to U.S. interference. However having said that, a Cruz missile may not be out of the question due to the U.S. not being all that interested anymore about what the world will think of their methods.

I just thought I'd post this from another site - written by someone who actually lives there in Caracas, Venezuela.

I don't think he is the leader of men you make him out to be. Just another seeker of power in South America.

Quote:
The problem is that right now I have been looking for ways to leave Venezuela, but I hate the fact that I would have to leave my HOME for this a**wipe! However, I end up putting everything in a balance and the outcome of leaving outweighs staying. I got married 7 months ago and we´re surviving the best way we can! Everything costs 3 times what it should, and business wise, you better be well connected to some chavista ´cause they own everything right now!

My father worked in PDVSA for 30 years and he was fired, his accounts through the company were frozen, his caja de ahorros shut down...his whole life down the drain. Everything he worked for, was taken away through "Alo Presidente" chavez´s tv/radio show! Along with him another 18000 workers were also "fired". Now as chavez says "PDVSA es de todos" and that´s exactly why we´ve more accidents in refineries, wells shut down and forever damaged, leaks in the Maracaibo Lake...because it belongs to everyone. The NEW PDVSA don´t have the education, expertise, and preparation to work there. When the "new" started to work in the offices in Caracas, they had to call german techs to come help them log in into the system the OLD PDVSA used which was SAP. These people took computers, furniture, printers...you name it, and did a "garage sale" in front of their offices with all that, giving it away basically for free, cause the poor need computers also. OK... I can work with that thought up to some extent... but these were top of the line technology used to generate a countries income, not to play solitaire!!!!!

With the oil prices right now this man actually has a higher revenue than before, and they´re actually selling less than half than what we used to!!! It´s amazing, and venezuela in falling apart like never before. Since he took power, natural disasters started, hate grew, poverty grew, insecurity grew, unemployment grew, yet all he cares about is bitching to the US and destroying Venezuela´s democracy and of course try to get as many countries as he can to think the way he does about the US. PEOPLE THIS IS THE MAN THAT SAID THAT ALL LATIN AMERICANS SHOULD UNITE AND CREATE A UNITED ARMY TO FIGHT AGAINST THE IMPERIALISTIC WAR FRIENDLY AMERICANS???????

HELLOOOOOOOO?!?!?!?!? He is a threath to all nations!

Por cierto como me gustaria poder irme, pero no es asi de simple, es muy dificil.

Chavez, manipulator of the poor and misguided would be a BETTER title for this thread.

But hey, you guys cna drool over him all you want. How would you however feel, if let's say over the next 10 years you work your ass off, make money, get a good business gowing.. you're doing well living the good life. And someone like Chavez were to take power in America, and take YOUR business, YOUR land and give it to the "poor"

I think your opinion would change in a heartbeat.

He claims to be a Socialist. Communism, at least in practice, is little more than an excuse for dictators to abuse human rights under a populist flag. Chavez is no Kim-Jung Il.

From Monty of II
Quote:
What's really most interesting about this is that it makes it clear that communism and capitalism can't peacefully coexist side by side.
Communism cannot coexist peacefully with anything; its philosophy is one of violence and intolerance. It's a system of left-wing fascism. It shouldn't be confused with Socialism which has its roots in freeing people from corporate oppression. In America, Socialism and Capitalism already coexist. The way I see it, anything that is meant to benefit the common good and is also controlled by the government falls into the category of Socialism; things like unions, public schools, welfare, social security, etc. To simplify things, just look at every public policy and government program that the Bush administration has tried to wipe out to get an idea of where Socialist ideas can be found in America.

But as for Chavez and the lunatic Pat Robertson, care should be taken by the Bush administration and all Christians in general to distance themselves from Robertson's outrageous comments. It is obvious, however, that they will only shrug their shoulders and ignore it while the rest of the world uses it as a springboard for yet more anti-American sentiment. Also, our government needs to make it clear what free speech actually means in America and that public figures often say things that are contrary to U.S. policy. This is a very difficult concept for many people in the world to come to terms with. To them, if it comes from the mouth of an American, then it came from the mouth of America itself. Most people in the world think that if a man is allowed to say something publicly, then his views must be supported by his government, otherwise he’d go to jail. You can tell this by the quotes from other people around the world who expect Robertson to be punished for what he said. Our leaders are basically saying “Yeah, he was wrong, but so what?” and I think this is being interpreted as compliance. Bush and his cronies have done such an extraordinary job of alienating us as a country. I have a hard time believing it’s an accident, unless it’s a prolonged, six-year accident.

I don’t know much else about Chavez but I do like the fact that he audaciously offered to bypass our corrupt oil industry and sell gas to the poor for cheap. At least he’s ruffling some feathers that really need to be ruffled. It’s a lot better than some wacko provoking the rest of the world and making everyone here look bad.

My opinion was lessened. If you go back I do believe I said I was pissed because they (The GOP) did not take a stand against the ruling. The choice of Roberts for Supreme Court has given... some hope we might see the liberal activist control of the court as a whole come to an end... and that damn ruling get over turned.
