| Igneous Magma Posts: 169 | What's really most interesting about this is that it makes it clear that communism and capitalism can't peacefully coexist side by side. And it's not because the communists are ever going to be able to interfere with the capitalist markets as Chavez seems to be indicating is his goal. No, the capitalist market will have to make sure that communism won't be allowed to bring any of it's influence at all into the U.S. The only question is, how will the U.S. stop him and what measures will it have to resort to in order to stop him. In some ways this is a similar situation to the U.S./Canada situation where healthcare is provided for everyone in Canada and some in the U.S. are going bankrupt because they can't afford the care and medicines necessary for keeping people alive and well. Granted, the degree of similarity is small only because Canada doesn't threaten the U.S. system nearly as much as Chavez is threatening to do. Canada will sell cheap pharmaceuticals to the U.S. but the drug companies are in line with that to a large degree because it only enhances their own profit. This is a situation with Chavez that the U.S. will need to find a remedy for as soon as possible. It's only foretelling of some of the other measures that Chavez is capable of taking against the U.S. system, such as cutting the U.S. off from it's Venezuelan oil supply. Due to the U.S. being embroiled in a war that's going to last for a good many years into the future, the U.S.' hands are probably tied when it comes to dealing militarily with Chavez. And that's the reason that Chavez is taking advantage of his moment in the sun along with Cuba to twist the knife a little. Of course the U.S. is totally in agreement with Robertson but can't come out publicly and admit that they are. How stupid of Robertson to blow the cover and admit what the real agenda is for Venezuela and Chavez. A crude guess for a solution to the Chavez problem would be a Cruz missile on his home but unfortunately that would be very visible to the rest of the world. Better an assassination pulled off by some group that's not readily traceable to U.S. interference. However having said that, a Cruz missile may not be out of the question due to the U.S. not being all that interested anymore about what the world will think of their methods. |

| Moderator/nobody Posts: 1,566 | I just thought I'd post this from another site - written by someone who actually lives there in Caracas, Venezuela. I don't think he is the leader of men you make him out to be. Just another seeker of power in South America. Quote:

How would you however feel, if let's say over the next 10 years you work your ass off, make money, get a good business gowing.. you're doing well living the good life. And someone like Chavez were to take power in America, and take YOUR business, YOUR land and give it to the "poor" I think your opinion would change in a heartbeat. Einstein's "Theory of Relativity" is still being challenged to this day, but by consensus Global Warming is a fact... that's REAL science at work, why didn't Albert just go that route? |

| Molten Ash Posts: 30 | He claims to be a Socialist. Communism, at least in practice, is little more than an excuse for dictators to abuse human rights under a populist flag. Chavez is no Kim-Jung Il. From Monty of II Quote:
But as for Chavez and the lunatic Pat Robertson, care should be taken by the Bush administration and all Christians in general to distance themselves from Robertson's outrageous comments. It is obvious, however, that they will only shrug their shoulders and ignore it while the rest of the world uses it as a springboard for yet more anti-American sentiment. Also, our government needs to make it clear what free speech actually means in America and that public figures often say things that are contrary to U.S. policy. This is a very difficult concept for many people in the world to come to terms with. To them, if it comes from the mouth of an American, then it came from the mouth of America itself. Most people in the world think that if a man is allowed to say something publicly, then his views must be supported by his government, otherwise he’d go to jail. You can tell this by the quotes from other people around the world who expect Robertson to be punished for what he said. Our leaders are basically saying “Yeah, he was wrong, but so what?” and I think this is being interpreted as compliance. Bush and his cronies have done such an extraordinary job of alienating us as a country. I have a hard time believing it’s an accident, unless it’s a prolonged, six-year accident. I don’t know much else about Chavez but I do like the fact that he audaciously offered to bypass our corrupt oil industry and sell gas to the poor for cheap. At least he’s ruffling some feathers that really need to be ruffled. It’s a lot better than some wacko provoking the rest of the world and making everyone here look bad. | |

My opinion was lessened. If you go back I do believe I said I was pissed because they (The GOP) did not take a stand against the ruling. The choice of Roberts for Supreme Court has given... some hope we might see the liberal activist control of the court as a whole come to an end... and that damn ruling get over turned.
