Well , as human are spread around the world , and as we are proud of being what we are, or not, and as we are all happy to be alive and on this earth , that should appears like a valid type of patriotism to me. a corrolar of this is that : Limiting the definition of patriotism to very narrow definition who fit your belief is childish and is not helping in any point the discussion . I think we are more interrested here by what in general make people feel patriotic , and how this "common" feeling can be shared by people who have absolutely no affinity in their beliefs . Or how patriotism morph into nationalism , segregation and facism . Or how patriotism lost and won war etc.... |

People who are willing to stand up and fight - and if necessary, die - for their country and their people. Anyone who is against patriotism should be against having a family too. In a sense patriotism is a wider sense of family. You defend your parents if a murderer comes at them, and you defend your country if another country threatens you. Patriotism is not blindness. It is simply love for your country. It isnt ignorance; people who understand politics still lives your country. Nor is it hate. You can love other countries, but your heart always stays with your nation. Many so-called liberals are in fact secretly patriotic. G Adams defended Great Britain when I suggested German soldiers (WW2) fought better than the Brits. Ideological loyalty is the act of giving your soul to a vague concept, to be manipulated by people smarter than you. |

I think the ONLY problem in life is seperatism... people who act as if they are not part of something bigger, something more than themselves. Individuals do it, groups do it, but it doesn't stave off loneliness or insecurity because it doesn't address the fact that you can't draw lines between one person and another, one group and another. Everything and everyone is interconnected and no amount of flag waving and personal preening is ever going to change that. |
