Chris,
So what is your sources of political education on the issues?
I don't listen to shows that much but read lots of articles.

Most connservatives I know are very well read on the issues and think for themselves.
I look at 3 major news outlets, the BBC, the ABC in Australia and CNN here in America. I also Google News.

Most conservatives I have come across look at Drudge and Fox News. Which are 2 jokes in themselves.

Back in those days it was a race for control of the world between communism and democratic powers.
Many countries of even lesser importance than Vietnam were being protected or fought for to prevent the spread of communism.
Thanks for not answering my direct question. Tell me what benefit do you see in a war in Vietnam?

Well, if nothing else you are getting amusing.

The last great crusade of the empire was fighting "communism" - the evil empire that collapsed under its own weight. So now you villify all Muslims and justify needless wars. Cheering on stupid crusades while making the real problems worse. Just a bad running joke.

For the most part, the BBC, ABC, CNN, Fox and Drudge all are pretty much the same thing, because they ALL link AP stories from the same sources.

The only difference between CNN and Fox is that #1 far more people watching.

When you get away from the news and go to the entertainment shows like King on Cnn and Hannity of Fox, there you are getting editorial opinion of events. That part of the broadcasting isn't the news on either channel.

Ignoring the background noise and returning to the topic at hand, from today's Daily News:

An army of one
Quote:
George Bush has met his match. He has twice vanquished Democratic opponents, brought down Saddam Hussein and is the straw that stirs the world's drink.

All that was before Cindy Sheehan showed up on his doorstep.

Sheehan lost her son Casey in Iraq and now the President is paying the piper. He is a hostage to Sheehan's little band of protesters camped near his ranch in Crawford, Tex. This is not how the President wanted to spend his vacation. He has only himself to blame. Bush's decision to spend a full month in Texas was stunningly stupid. With Americans turning solidly against the war - a Newsweek poll reported a mere 34% now approve of his handling of Iraq - the President looks callous when the nation needs reassuring. And he could be losing his last bit of leverage over public opinion. Put it this way: no support, no war.
....
There is a chance that Sheehan is just the media flavor of the month. But I wouldn't bet on it. This feels like a turning point. It's happened before.

Abraham Lincoln, when he met Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of the anti-slavery tract "Uncle Tom's Cabin," said: "So you're the little woman who wrote the book that started this great war!"

Perhaps someday a President will greet Cindy Sheehan this way: "So you're the little woman who stopped the Iraq war."

Chris, I did answer your question. you just didn't like the answer.

There was at that time a world wide struggle between communism and democracy. We were there to fight against Communism spreading and the left wing activist ruined the will of the people in America to fight the war, so they enabled the communist to win Vietnam.

Like I said, that one isn't happening ever again in America.

Go watch the film "Outfoxed" and come back at me. The point that its the #1 cable news network is meaningless. FNC books a disproportionate amount of conservative vs. liberal guests. Any why reduce the news to liberal vs. conservative punditry anyway? Why not just report the news?

a. The Smurfs
b. Davy Jones

7. In 1985 TWA flight 847 was hijacked at Athens, and a US Navy diver trying to rescue passengers was murdered by:
a. Captain Kidd
b. Charles Lindberg
c. Mother Teresa
d. Muslim men mostly between the ages of 17 and 40

8. In 1988, Pan Am Flight 103 was bombed by:
a. Scooby Doo
b. The Tooth Fairy
c. Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid
d. Muslim men mostly between the ages of 17 and 40

9. In 1993 the World Trade Center was bombed the first time by:

That test is utter BS. One could make a similar list counting of ...x... fill in the blank (racial or ethnic group)

sad.

Chris, we are free to discuss that and more if you wish anytime, I don't mind ANY back and forth conversation at all.
I got the impression I answered you the first time regarding the tussle between Communism and Democracy. I'm sorry if I didn't express myself well enough to you the first time to be understood.

No the reason I am not going to mention it again is because I don't want to bog down a thread about a grieving mother with idle BS about the cold war and the lunacy that was Vietnam.

Chris,
The test has all factual information in it.
Regarding Outfoxed, the special featured fired ex-Fox lower level employees that used to work at fox.
I think Fox even made one of those back at the other network as well.

No bid deal, Fox has had it's ratings increase even more since that aired. :-)

I see bigotry, bias and a lack of understanding. But then so what else is new?

The old cliche goes that those who do not learn from history are condemned to repeat it is sadly true. You haven't yet figured out why we lost in Vietnam and are now cheering on another losing war in Iraq. And once again, young men and women are dying for the stupidity of those who never learned from the past.

That multiple choice "test" is comical. It proves absolutely nothing whatsoever, but it does make me laugh in disbelief that anyone could make up such a questionnaire and seriously believe it to carry any weight. Anyone could put together a list of offences commited by members of any racial group / religion. It means nothing as there is no context whatsoever.

RickSP,
We know the vast majority of the terror that has been happening has been from those that worship the god of the moon. It isn't bigotry, it's become a profile to be aware of so we "as you said" aren't condemned to repeat the mistakes of history.

Lack of understanding?
Would that be of all the Islamic countries that treat their women all so poorly or the terrorists that blow up the innocent or just cut off a head for fun?

the god of the moon? What the hell is that BS?

What group has carried out the most suicide bombings? Can you answer me that?

EDIT: from 1980-2004 what group has committed more suicide bombings?

Anyone with a modest of knowledge of history (not something I would necessarily accuse you of) knows that all the crimes that either the bigoted or the uninformed claim are central to Islam could also be charged of Christianity at various points in its history. Likewise the outbreak of anarchist terrorism at the end of the 19th century is not so different even in ideology of the more nihilist Islamists. Or that while Christianity was at its most barbaric that Islam was the world leader in both tolerance and in arts and sciences.

It also appears that you are unaware that the country with the world's largest Islamic population is also a functioning democracy which has had a woman as president.

Better to focus on actually fighting terrorism rather than engage in stupid religous slurs and the promotion of new Christian crusades against Muslims. That was tried in the 1095 and turned out rather badly.
