Just some musings regarding the anti-terror thing.

Right seeing as Delta-Force are immune from prosecution fo any actions carried out in performing their duty why not unleash them against known terrorists?
Same applies in Britain, for 100's of years British Intelligence kept Ireland under control with selective removal of key players in the Irish freedom movements, in fact the only reason Ireland ever got independence was MC broke the back of British Intelligence in Ireland. I reckon given two weeks, MI5 and MI6 could "remove" any problems in mainland UK. I don't necessarily mean executions, they could be arrested and just detained indefinitely.

Just my thoughts on the matter....feel free to call me a Nazi. Also I hope myself that I never end up in an intelligence capacity.....sometimes I scare myself.

Well maybe they could take the bad guys out of circulation and maybe they couldn't. We've certainly witnessed stunning incompetence in the past (see Cray Brothers: "even the police began to sit up and take notice...").
And maybe (certainly) some perfectly innocent guys would be taken out as well (remember the Brazilian Tube-taker; remember the Birmingham pub bombing; remember all past fuck-ups and miscarriages of justice). This would be especially guaranteed if the public servants concerned had carte blanche.

Then there's the wee matter of rule of law. If they don't have to obey the law, why the hell (some might reason) should I?

Yes, it's not like if we could just locate the 40 terrorist leaders, things would return to normal. You really need some massive police actions around the world to find people who don't support our government.

Indefinate detentions are not the way forward, and alienate our minorities still further. You'd create more 'martyrs' and provide a British Guantanamo Bay - not the best step forward and fosters more divisions & hatred. Short-term, great, long-term, it's crap.

I appreciate these are just 'musings' - I often had much the same sort of musings about unleashing the Gurkhas on Northern Ireland every now & then.

I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.

Let's see :

First we had to have the Patriot Act to address the security of the country.
The Pentagon is now developing plans to enter the domestic security disruptions that may develop. Read MARTIAL LAW.
Now we are to give up personal privacy information to the government.
What next: Waving of the Constitution for the duration of the "WAR ON TERROR"?
Declaring George "THE STEADFAST" President for the duration of the "WAR ON TERROR"?
Suspension of the Congress for the duration of "THE WAR ON TERROR"?

I'd say that outside the US it would take a truly massive hunt to turn up many people who do support it. :)

Since we are just 'musing' to while away the time - what would be the harm in granting as in a James Bond type of way - a license to kill?

We all know that in each government people train for just that sort of operation. Surgically remove the threat when and where we find it.

Surely it would be more humane than dropping a bomb on a house. Just musing of course.

Has it occurred to you that by advocating the use of these kinds of tactics you are making yourself a legitimate target for your opponents? You can't claim to be an innocent civilian if you actively support such activities.

I know, I know we just can't go around killing people. Whatever was I thinking. Try not to look at any history though.

As far as being a target - aren't we one already?
