righthand- My style of not using the quote feature of the forum probably leads to some confusion. I don't use it because I find it cumbersome and I am more used to cut and paste. That could lead some to confuse my words with those of others.

hiroshima was terrible, but if the bomb hadn't been dropped it could have been much worse. It was not terrorism it was choosing "the lesser of two evils". If it hadn't been dropped russia would have thought it was the only one with nuclear weapons and could have joined japan and caused a nuclear war thus the end of the world...so don't complain

livvie, I think you are out of your league here, unless you enjoy being humiliated for your lack of knowledge. The US was the only nation with the Atomic Bomb in 1945. The chances of USSR joining Japan were very small. Why would they care to join a nation that had been defeated in battle after battle against a nation that had supplied vital war materiel to Russia for the war against Germany?

livvie, do you have any formal education? If not, you might want to limit your posts to the areas of opinion, rather than issues regarding actual facts...

The A Bomb was dropped because America had lost tens of thousands on a single assault of Japan and we realized they would all fight us till their last breath.

It was done to save hundreds of thousands of lives at that time.

Really? The USSR would've joined Japan? Interesting take, livvie, but I'm afraid that opinion doesn't really cut much ice. And you're telling us not to 'complain' or even debate the issue of Hiroshima? With all due respect, I'd suggest you take a long, hard look at what this site stands for. Heated debate. Contentious issues being discussed and debated. Not an echo chamber of one view or people telling each other to shut up.

Personally, I find the fact that one bomb was used unsurprising and understandable, but horrifying nontheless. The second one, however...is less 'forgivable'.

Really Matt, you think it's an interesting take to think that Russia would have joined Japan? I think it's pure nonsense and not even worth a reply.

But of course GBA must have it right. Why? Because he says so!

And that's about as far as any of the pro-bomb arguments go.

Incidentallly, another reason why they dropped the second bomb was because it was a different kind of bomb and it needed to be tested on a civilian population also.

I fear you have it right, monty. That thought is so disgraceful that I would like the US to apologize and acknowledge the true reasoning for the use of the "Fat Man" bomb. Another poster for America's Wall of Shame.
