| Igneous Magma Posts: 240 | There's always a lot of talk about jobs at election time. Each party declares that its candidate can "create jobs" better than the other. Who gives a shit? In the first place, presidents and congressmen cannot create jobs, they can only take money from wage earners (making it less likely that jobs will pay a living wage). Secondly, what is a "job" anyway? It is a pre-defined, cookie-cutter position in a company designed by a business owner in hopes that the worker will help make him rich. It is designed for high school graduates. Public school is organized to make people dependent on a "job." You go to class, sit in your little chair at your little desk, listen to teacher tell you what to do, regurgitate what she wants to hear, and watch the clock until you're allowed to go home and flush whatever you managed to learn while studying for exams. You get a reward at the end of each term in the form of a report card. You graduate, and go to a company where you sit in your little chair in your little cubicle, listen to the boss tell you what he wants you to do, regurgitate his demands, and watch the clock until it is time to go home and flush the business of the day. At the end of the pay period, you get your reward -- a wage determined by the state minus the vigorish politicians extract as a cost of "protecting" you from big corporations and foreign bogeymen. "Gee, Jackney . . .how else can we survive?" you might ask . . . For starters, forget what they taught you in public school about economics. It was bullshit. Here is how you earn a living in the real world: help someone else get what he/she wants, and ask for something in return. Pretty simple. Now, if you want to make a million dollars, help a million people get something they want, and ask for a dollar each. If you want to make ten million dollars, help a million people get something they really want, and ask for $10 each. If you want to settle for a two bedroom apartment, and a used car, help just one person (a middle manager of a corporation, for example) get what he wants, and be satisfied with the minimum wage he is willing to trade you for it. If you develop your talents using your god-given brain (or if you prefer, your evolution-given brain) you can do better than that. If you're incapable of doing anything other than obey orders, you'll probably fall for the bullshit politicians tell you, and demand they give you free goodies at other people's (the ones legitimately trying to help others get what they want) expense. As far as exporting jobs overseas, I'm all for it. If the people who are only capable of obeying orders can't make it here, I suggest they move overseas where their jobs went. --Jackney Sneeb |

However, most people are sheep. Remember that business ownership involves taking a risk. The majority of the population are scared shitless when taking risks. Most people are happy to work comfortably in a position that doesn't require thinking, risk-taking, or determination. Problem is school doesn't teach risk. School increases your fear of risk. If you fail an exam, then your life is over. Whereas in everyday life, successful people fail most of the time. Its just about picking yourself up, learning, and trying again till you suceed. What is most strange is that most people wish for things, but they don't make the effort. I was talking to this guy who worked in a nuclear plant, and he mentioned the plant throws out hundreds of equipment each year, due to stringent requirements. So I said, "Why don't you sell that equipment and make yourself a few thousand a week?" His response? "Nah, can't be stuffed". Ideological loyalty is the act of giving your soul to a vague concept, to be manipulated by people smarter than you. |

I wrote the above essay in an attempt to motivate people to get out of the "job" trap they have been conditioned to believe in. It's never too late to trash irrational beliefs in favor of doing something different.
Quote:
Originally Posted by (castille,) Remember that business ownership involves taking a risk. If we want to improve things for us we owe it to ourselves to help them get over their irrational fears, and seek to achieve their full human potential.
Quote:
Originally Posted by (castille,) Problem is school doesn't teach risk. And that's the major problem with public school -- it has little relationship to the real world -- other than the corporate "real world."
Quote:
Originally Posted by (castille,) What is most strange is that most people wish for things, but they don't make the effort. If someone can make a million dollars selling plain old rocks, what excuse is there for someone else not making a good living using his own brain and just a little consideration for what others want? --Jackney Sneeb |
