![]() Gamma-ray burst Location: Nashville Posts: 6,403 | On the media This morning I was watching a bit of MSNBC and they abrubtly cut off Tony Blair talking about the London attacks to bring the story of that missing girl in Aruba. Is it just me or is the media taking too much time covering this story? I seem to be reminded of Jonbenet and Elizabeth Smart. Young kids get kidnapped and killed every single day. You never hear about a black kid. Its always these rich, blonde, cutesy kids. The Elizabeth Smart thing was a prime example. I don't exactly remember but didn't we all come to the conclusion that it was the fault of the mother? They even made a made-for-tv movie about it for chrissakes! (as well as made one about Jonbenet and wasn't that also the parent's fault?) WTF is going on with the media? This girl was kidnapped, yeah. Why the fuck should I care that they are using sonar to locate her on the island. People are freaking dying in the world. Really pisses me off! ![]() |

What new information could you possibly convey about yet another hurricane? I am all for telling people to get indoors, you know, common sense stuff. Other than that why is the media spending SO MUCH time on them? And then you have those dumbasses that get outside in the storm and try and broadcast from it, with the wind blowing at 125 mph. |

| Igneous Magma Posts: 192 | The Aruba thing is driving me nuts! Even worse, my wife won't let me throw stuff at the TV. I started firing these Brussels sprouts at the tube when the Aruba story came one and she freaked out. The media have pounded that Aruba mother like a cheap steak. This is a little hateful but who F' ing cares? When I think of all the poor, fat, ugly kids who go missing and unreported - this is just unfair. To keep things fair and balanced, Fox should at least report one fat cheeked illegal alien who has gone missing. The hurricanes! I lived in a hurricane alley and these news stories make conditions worse. They have people acting berserk and buying plywood for their windows while the storm is out by Cuba. And lets face it, if an 800-pound tree hits your house traveling 40 miles per hour, plywood is just gonna piss it off. And the worse thing, those carnival barking reporters who go stand on the windy beaches in their $500 rain outfits and acting all heroic. I really wish an 800-pound tree would … This is a far worse thing Fox does than report political news not approved by the Democratic Party. |

| Igneous Magma Posts: 192 | It has gotten far worse since they put themselves on live 24 hours a day. I remember when CNN ran a news loop (the same 10 minutes segments) all day and all night until something worthy happened to add to the loop. These stories about rich blonde girls in distress reek of the "Perils of Pauline" serials where they were always tying some screaming tart to the railroad tracks. |

| Igneous Magma Posts: 192 | Yesh - if they voted for Bush, they really should be slaughtered like pigs and eaten by dogs. That should happen to everyone who voted for Bush. Finally, we could begin our utopian society. No wars, famine, disease or work. We could get some togas and just eat grapes and have wild sex! That look on our face would be the Etruscan smile! On yeah - I checked my political compass and I scored 0-.25 & 0-.97. That is further to the right than before I noticed just how extreme the left has become. |

| Molten Ash Posts: 77 | Any of you ever read the comic Ghost Rider? One of his powers was the "Penance Stare", where he makes his enemies feel the pain they inflict on others. Bush needlessly put innocent people between us and the terrorists. To me, if they voted for Bush, they endorsed the killing of innocent people in Iraq. There's "how it should be" and "how I feel about it". Forgive me for not having sympathy for people who vote for war and refuse to participate. Their daughter should have been at Parris island not Aruba. True ease in writing comes from art, not chance, As those move easiest who have learn’d to dance. -Alex Pope |

As for the Media, I agree with most people that they are generally covering the wrong things. "It is not power that corrupts but fear. Fear of losing power corrupts those who wield it and fear of the scourge of power corrupts those who are subject to it."- Aung San Suu Kyi | |
