Lincoln Memorial Video May Be Revised

The National Park Service sought out footage of ``conservative - right-wing demonstrations'' to revise the video shown to visitors at the Lincoln Memorial after being pressured by conservatives who complained the display implied Abraham Lincoln supported abortion, homosexuality and liberal causes.

I don't know that it's a bad thing (although it could easily turn into one), but... honestly, don't these people have anything better to do?

Since he was a major proponent, by his actions, towards censorship, I'd say yes he would.

Today "things" are released as news, education, art, free speech and so on that are meant specifically to inflame an audience. There is no reason for the release but to inflame an audience. Only as a simple example, Christians can be ravaged by any comment, art or action but all other religions enjoy an often irrational protection under the politically correct umbrella of anti-censorship.

This would cause alarm for almost anyone seeing today's condition through the eyes of the past.

This is really rather ridiculous, I think. Considering this is history, and whatever was recorded is what was recorded. End of story. What good would changing it do for any one? It would be like trying to rewrite the timeline or biography of someone's life. Things like this make me wonder what ideas we will have about the past fifty years from now. When everything is twisted and misconstrued. "Revised" and "reworked" so that people are satisfied with what they see. Well, it doesn't really matter what you want to see if that is what truely happened in that point in history.

Also, what difference would it make even if Lincoln did support abortion, homosexuality and liberal causes? We rate every one of our past and our present presidents by their ability to lead our country. Everyone has a right to their own opinions of any of these presidents. Revising information about them doesn't help anyone and it doesn't change what had been.

Heh, our government has had it's hand in shaping history for quite some time.


No need to wait to see the effects of this type of behavior, just turn on the History Channel any time they are doing political history, it's full of revisions, and omissions. ( Pablo Escobar, Ruby Ridge, and Waco being the easiest to spot because there are recent books out there on those subjects. )


For a more contemporary view, turn on the news, you can see the "facts" when the revisions are fresh from the oven.
