| Sedimentary Rock Posts: 8 | Now this is some topical conversation! Why was the half-time show imported from 1998? It's probably not a good sign during anything when Justin Timberlake shows up and your reaction is "oh thank god, Justin Timberlake is here!" Frankly I didn't find the breast nearly as entertaining as the crazy streaker. Primarily because a "streaking group" gave interviews before the Superbowl talking about how they were going to streak the Superbowl ... and they did. Um, security? I also enjoyed that Bryant Gumball or one of those brainless, charisma-less tools said "well they (the players) should just ignore this." So the Panthers should have just kicked off with a nude man prancing about midfield? Is that your idea of a football game Gummy? Poor old Willie was saddled with the albatross of Toby Keith ... or whoever that was. When you see a country guy like Toby it's amazing anyone even remotely associated with country in any fashion can not seem like the biggest loser in any room. Johnny Cash and the handful of others who still seem cool deserve some type of award. P. Diddy also deserves an award in the opposite fashion. You know how most rappers can get away with looking okay no matter what? Diddy manages to look so incredibly stupid even in the context of hip-hop where pretty much nobody can do anything wrong these days. At what point during Aerosmith's bizarre "doo be doo be bop dee boo dee" lyrics did you remind yourself they turned down U2? I'm no crazy tree-hugging U2 fanboy but boy howdy did that suck. I would also like to note that Nelly has now played two Superbowl half-times. Nelly. How does that happen? Have these people just never heard of Snoop? Who the hell was that dude singing the NASA song? In fact everything that happened in that brutal hillbilly infested mechanical bull riding consortium pre-game show should be stricken from history by Jean Claude Van Damme himself. Tomorrow: My take on the 1994 Superbowl half-time show. |

| Molten Ash Location: Cognitive Dissonance Posts: 60 | its funny what americas find shocking and disturbing. during the half time show, kid rock came out with a flaged wrapped around his body then threw it to the ground and went on with his song. i never heard one person say they were offended by what he did. then when janet shows her nipple, every one goes crazy. 1, you could not tell she showed her nipple. it was flashed for 2 secs, then they zoomed out. all you so was this thing that looked like a breast with a pasty on it. i didnt not see her "nipple" untill i went online and saw a close up of it. im sure that 95% of people did not see the nipple untill they saw a close up. its funny, days after "Nipple gate", there were congressional reports and hysteria everywhre. sad how a CIA agent that had been undercover for 20 years had her named leaked by whitehouse officials in an attempt to disgrace her husband who said things the bush administration didnt like. there hasnt been much outrage at that, and congress sure has been slow to move on investagating. <<because i f**kin said so>>™ |

| Sedimentary Rock Posts: 8 | I found that strange about Kid Rock too because Bon Jovi did the same thing a year or so ago during the Superbowl (or maybe Opening Day -- Bon Jovi played like ten NFL games for some reason) and there was a mini-uproar over them wearing a flag and they didn't even throw it on the floor. |

| Retired Posts: 7,312 | People did comment on the flag thing. In the wake of all the uproar over Janet and Justin, it was mentioned that the whole show was too sexual in nature and the flag thing was not right. Unplanned and unallowed nudity was just the biggest thing and got the most attention. And I 100% believe it would have been the same if it were a white woman's breast. That had nothing to do with it. | Molten Ash Posts: 120 | The nipple thing was WAY overdone. The only reason it became such a big news story is because it was made into a huge news story by the press. I don't think most people really cared too much.. I know I didn't anyway. The real problem with the whole nipple fiasco is how the FCC has decided to crack down on offensive material on television. Cable and satellite services have had more freedom because people pay for those services. This week Federal Communications Commissioner Kevin Martin said they are looking to see if such stations have to follow "indecency" standards. |

| Sedimentary Rock Location: South Dakota Posts: 10 | I believe that the "NippleGate" incident is a symptom, not the sickness. I have 3 daughters, and if I want them to grow up to have some type of self control, and some resonance of character, that has to be developed, and exposure to the world has to come in doses that the child can digest over time. To simply say "Kids are going to learn about it sooner or later. Why not just tell them from the beginning?" is to say that from birth children should be allowed to view porn, homosexual and hetro, and gratuitous violence. Why not roll them up a fattie and help 'em smoke grass during their spelling bee? The problem is that Americans have been WAY TOO LAX with their kids for the last 3-5 generations, consecutively. The result is that now we have a generation with poor work ethics and no character. Some of us are doing our part to keep the statistics down. |

Why now such nudity became immoral?<hr size="1" /></blockquote><span class='postcolor'>Your analogy is weak for two reasons: 1. National Geographic's material is not presented in a pornographic manner, neither are the programs on television that document the society of natives. These exposures are limited, and the material is educational so they are granted some leeway. The targeted audience is not family, and I doubt many children could sit through those programs anyway. 2. The Super Bowl is regarded as a family program, and it airs during prime time. As an adult, you might not care, but for the parents with children watching, it is a big issue. I don't see what sort of educational benefit children receive from seeing a fifty-something diva's breast exposed at such a high profile sporting event. Tu ne cede malis, sed contra audentior ito. |
