| Citizen #21521 Posts: 2,599 | Would you accept a peaceful, but boring life? Let's say you get your favourite form of government. Socialism, fascism, democracy, libertarianism, etc. And let's say that government finally solves all the world's problems. The sacrifice, then, is that there are no more challenges. Everything is 100% perfect. You are given a secure (if somewhat boring) job. Your life under the new regime becomes perfect, so you don't need to improve anything. Would you accept this sacrifice for a perfect world? Ideological loyalty is the act of giving your soul to a vague concept, to be manipulated by people smarter than you. |

As much as I dislike certain aspects of our society and our world in general. The promise of oneness I dislike more. Live Long and Prosper (Genetics and Capitalism) |

If people had time to really explore the billions of volumes of information our societies have created, documented, equated, and compiled people would see that there is much more to life than working and watching tv. Learning is FUN, when you actually find things you WANT to learn about, whether it is political science, or how to create and tie the perfect fishing lure for Walleye. The biggest thing that keeps people from truly enjoying life, is TIME, and how society has become so adept at stealing it from people in an "effort to make all our lives easier." Society has steadily increased our level of interaction as to make the majority of our day accounted for on some calendar of appointments for both business and personal stressors. I think everyone in the world would benefit from a mandatory year off, and being FORCED to occupy themselves for a year. My times of unemployment, have forced me to do this, and also caused me to find where my true intrests lie which in my opinion has released a wave of creativity and intrest in areas I never knew I cared about. Life may be physically easier now than when we were hunter gatherers, but the mental effects of stress is indicative that now we must find a way for society to allow for both, complex society and a reasonable level of stress. One way the Germans have been ahead of us for years, in their worksharing programs. | Igneous Magma Posts: 257 | To quote one of my favorite movies and this is how I try to live my life now "a man can spend his life looking for the perfect flower and it would not be a life wasted". I would give up anything in the whole world, including women booze drugs sex music anything if I could spend the rest of my life conpeatly contened. Though it would get borning without a woman... or rather a partner... but yes I would give up absolutly anything to live a truly happy life. |

No. Maybe I'm not as self-actualized as the rest of you, but I want a world that I can change for the better. As a scientist I work to help humanity on a physical level. As a political actavist I try to make our nation better. As a humanist I try to help the poor and unfortunate. I only gain meaning in my life by trying to make life better for me and others. If there were nothing to improve I would lead a stagnent and meaningless life. Fixed ideas are like a cramp in the foot - the best remedy against it is to tread on it. -Søren Kierkegaard |

I'm just saying that there will be no crime, no greed, no fear, etc. Everyone will agree with one another, there will be no conflict (ranging from arguments to war), and our lives would be structured to avoid any kind of conflict. I mean look at this forum - nearly everyone here is looking for some amount of conflict - debate.
