| Moderator/nobody Posts: 1,566 | Tiny, I had posted this same article on another site. I think the changes in the Mid East toward a representative government that includes women is one of the most positive steps in centuries. Sadly on the other site there are no comments. Some people will only focus on the negative, or their own problems. So they stay blind to the world around them. Live Long and Prosper (Genetics and Capitalism) |

| BANNED-Warned multiple times about instigating. User then reported topics multiple times to mess with staff. Posts: 4,412 | That story isn't there, but it is here: http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.j...toryID=8515478 sounds good. Don't know how important it is. Voting often doesn't mean much. |

By opening the process, there is a good chance for change. Voting only doesn't count when the outcomes are known before the election. Live Long and Prosper (Genetics and Capitalism)

| Volcanic Erupter Location: Hong Kong (for now) Posts: 7,008 | So, why do you think it's illegal in most countries? Because it's against the culture of the people of those countries, that's why. But cultural values change. Whereas it was once Kuwaiti culture that women be treated unequally at the electoral polls, now it is no longer; and I say it's because of American influence. |

Iraq has become a "base and pillar" for all the events that will change the Middle-East region surface, in political, administrative, social ect. fields. It would spread on Eastern Africa, and speed up that process on Asian states, as well. Adding U.S.'s policy in Asian northern regions (former Soviet Union's republics) will complete that process. Time is the factor.

| Retired Posts: 7,312 | But is Kuwait one of the countris where everyone has to vote for a certain person anyway? If so, it really makes no difference that women can also go and give a false, coerced vote. I'd like to see them have other rights as well. also, why do you think this is American-influenced? And don't you think that changes we force other countries to make might be stated as law but not actually enforced or permitted? For instance, in KSA, women now supposedly have to have the right to consent to a marriage or reject it. That may be the new law, but families may still force marriages and there be consequences if the woman tries to report it. And/or the goverment may not actually back her if she does. A Muslim friend who lives there says the law is a joke - women are still forced into marriages not of their choosing or consent and it will remain that way until a LOT of changes occur in society, which is unlikely given how stern KSA is, and how long it takes a willing society, even, to change that much. If she doesn't consent, the family can cut her off, and she's not permitted to work so how will she live? The law is a result of a suit brought against a woman who's father wouldn't take her back after a divorce. He might have been forced to take her back in, but who can enforce him not making her life hell in the house? "...with like-minded people one cannot discuss.
