What a disgusting display of "leadership". While our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq are expected to stand and face the enemy, and the "democratically elected government" of Iraq faces terror and bombings daily, our "leaders" turn and run at the slightest hint of danger. The capital is ringed with missile batteries, surrounded by troops, we have F-16's on ready alert, but an errant cessna is enough to cause our elected chicken-hawks to turn tail and haul ass. It's like a Monty Python movie - run away!! run away!!

Our "world leader" wasn't even in his office. I'm all for protecting the president, and the capital is very well protected. This plane wouldn't have gotten much farther before being shot down, it was being continually tracked. More than a couple of planes were launched to intercept it, as well as a helicopter or two. I'm sure that ground to air missiles were also ready to take it down. There was clearly no reason to panic. I think we are overreacting when 35,000 people run out into the streets in panic because of an off-course Cessna 150. It must have been hilarious to see our elected officials running to their limousines to be driven away to safe hiding places.

We've been brainwashed into thinking there's a terrorist behind every lamppost just waiting to attack us. Even a forgotten lunch bag on a park bench is enough to bring out SWAT teams, bomb squads, and federal investigators. Who knows how many mislaid handbags and briefcases have been blown up because we've become too paranoid to simply open them up and look inside. Better to be safe than sorry is one thing, but this has gotten to the ridiculous stage.

Our leaders, being already as well protected as unlimited taxpayer money can make them, should be setting an example and not running away in panic every time someone yells that the sky is falling.

I just thought this was so funny when I read about it. A cesna... if they had bothred to talk to the radio poilet they would have found out that he was compleatly lost... I read f16s were send up and shooting flairs at him to keep him away. I personally find it endlessly amusing to the depths we go for the ilusion of safty. If someone wanted to... they could get into the white house... it may take a few years... but it can be done. ::shakes head and laughs::

Only the low-level staffers were running. They presumably weren't warned about this staged event. Didja see any Senators or Representatives huffing and puffing?

Notice how, unlike on 911, the plane was intercepted within minutes. Not that Norad was ordered to stand down on 911 or anything.

The President of the United States was out riding his bicycle during all of this and wasn't even told about any of it until after the entire event was over!! Hey guys it was a plane.

Ok, it was a tiny little harmless plane, smaller than most compact cars, but at least this time, it was real. The last time folks went scurrying, including Bush who was in the White House, they were running from a really nasty looking cloud! Ooooh scary. Hope it is overcast whenever Bush goes biking. I'm sure his shadow could be really scary too!
