Syphilis on the rise in Gay Community

Quote:
http://www.greenwichtime.com/news/lo...%2Cprint.story

More and more gay men in Connecticut are contracting syphilis, a life-threatening sexually transmitted disease, according to new statistics from the state Department of Public Health.

Forty-five new cases of primary and secondary syphilis in Connecticut residents were reported to the state in 2004 -- more than triple the number of cases reported just four years ago, and 50 percent more than last year. Of those 45 new cases, 34 were gay men, including 12 who live in lower Fairfield County.

---

Dr. Hillard Weinstock, a medical epidemiologist with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, helped conduct a national study tracking the percentage of gay men among new syphilis cases from 1999 to 2002. Relying on state health department data, the CDC found that gay men accounted for about 5 percent of new syphilis cases in 1999, and 47 percent three years later. Although the rate of increase was most dramatic among gay white men, large increases in cases also occurred among Hispanic and African-American gays, according to the study, which was published last year.

The rise of syphilis among gay men may indicate younger gays' sense that HIV is no longer a serious threat, Weinstock said. The presence of effective drugs may be sending younger gays a message that AIDS patients can live healthy, productive lives, he said.

Once agin, I want to repeat, being gay is a perfectly healthy and normal life style according to the pro-gay education system and pro-gay groups.

Now read the above, scared yet? Do you realize how NASTY this information is? Syphallis is often found with HIV infection (note the article states the CDC as 50% of all new Syph cases have HIV though the number varies from 20-70%)

If the young crop of gay males really does believe that HIV isn't a big deal, it's treatable and all is good... then were gonna see an epidemic... for all we know it IT happening but it's not being reported because that would be "offensive to gays"

Just remember, this is a healthy and perfectly normal lifestyle... right?

Lots of gay guys haveing unprotected sex, Crystal Meth use is sky rocketing in the gay community, and many of the younger up and coming gays believe that HIV won't kill them, its treatable thus no big deal.

And how is this political, Mr. V? Want me to move this to Society & Rights?

I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.

Follow his link, but it's a really NASTY drug that gives a fast high, increases the sex drive and rush from sex, and seriously lowers inhabitions.

Wow, listen to this:

Side effects: The biggest risk is from the increased chance of HIV infection through unprotected and uninhibited sex while under the influence of meth. The liberating nature of the drug means that often safe sex is discarded while sexual activity increases greatly. It has been reported in the States that in almost half of the new AIDS cases, crystal meth has been a factor.

So, let me get this straight: HIV started from the gay community and spread to hetereosexuals, right?

And, according to Matt's link, "Once very big amongst some of the US gay community but now spreading fast into mainstream culture, meth was originally used by bikers and truckers to stay awake on long journeys."

Say, how come it's always gays who are the pioneers?

Crystal Meth is old news, to be honest.

True. Must admit, just too used to seeing stuff like this in Society rather than here.

It is. Provided, like with any other lifestyle, you don't go overboard with drugs that increase the risk of diseases spreading. Crystal Meth would work exactly the same on any young hetero folk who have AIDs. Your point?

In this case, it was bikers & truckers who were the pioneers.

That's not what that link said.

No, wait, it's my mistake. It originated from use by bikers and truckers. But it became big within the gay community and then spread.

It's my oversight (see my edited post). But you'd notice it became big within the gay community.

Yes....and now it's big mainstream. Why it became big with gays first, I have no idea, but they've always been trend-setters in more areas than just the drug scene.

Is this being gay, or being irresponsibile, unsafe, and gay? It points out that these are individuals with multiple partners, on drugs, and without protection. WELL DUH haha. Why am I not surprised that this causes disease? Is this the majority of gay people?

Perhaps you should separate the two. Also, last time I checked they did not really have a choice in the matter, so teacher tolerance in the as you call it "pro-gay" system is necessary.

Your open antihomosexuality is most admirable Mr Vicc. Great use of sarcasm...
For some reason, you seem to think that all homosexuals are very promiscious and don't practice safe sex.

HIV is a problem that most teen heterosexuals also don't acknowledge as a serious threat, not just homosexuals. Containing this Pandemic can't be achieved even if we eliminated homosexuals, infact, I think the WHO estimate another Africa-like problem in South East Asia within a decade if more measures aren't taken.

You guys don't get it do you?

CAN you be gay and live a healthy safe life? Sure.

But let's not play politically correct and be honest here for a minute shall we? What is the main goal of practically every teen age male? That's right get laid. Now hit your twenties, again, what's a driving force? Get laid.

Now guys, come on, if your single and in the prime of your health, and could walk into a
bar and garuntee you could get laid... you would. I mean... put a bunch of guys together with willing women, and they are gonna have sex right? But it's REALLY easy for gay males to find willing partners, REALLY easy. And being males, sex is a driving factor. Safe Sex is not something males are known for being huge proponents of.

Anal sex is highly conducive to the spread of STD's. Toss in a drug like Crystal Meth, male preponderance for screwing anything willing ready and able....

And you get news like this.

I am against the "gay lifestyle" on a religious level this is true and I have never claimed otherwise. But on a health level... I don't put poltically correct blinders and feel guilty for calling a spade a spade.
