Which Political Slogan Best Describes Your Stance?

Which of these two slogans best describes how you feel a society should work?

"I am my brother's keeper, and we are all brothers one with another."

"Lets other folks take care of theirs and I will take care of mine."

And most important is the follow-up qusetion...Why?

I don't think I can properly identify with either slogan.

I would go with "Help those whom cannot help themselves."

    I am my bother's keeper...

We are social creatures by nature. Mutual support and cooperation are the keys to our ability to thrive and survive.

All I see when I look down, something jumpin' on the ground, Scratchin' dirt, cluckin' in the barnyard -
Tell me, could that be you?

I prefer staying home, watching television and smoking pot. Would you be so kind as to pay for my groceries this month?

"I am my brother's keeper, and we are all brothers one with another."

Not sure about this slogan? Does this mean I have to be a keeper of everyone?

I'm gonna go make up my own slogan and be back.

    ~ Never take life seriously.~
~ Nobody ever gets out alive anyway.~

When have utilised our technology so that nobody need worry about starving, dying from lack of medical care or sleeping on the street we might be able to justify the moniker of "civilisation". At which point by all means smoke your pot and watch TV.

I more readily associate myself with being my brother's keeper, but neither slogan has the nuance or sophistication to describe my views. It is, after all, just a slogan.

If you are never going to do anything but smoke pot, stay home and watch television, it would be cheaper for me to buy your groceries than it would be for me to throw you in jail and have to buy your groceries and pay a guy to watch you to make sure you never leave. So yes, I would rather buy your groceries. Call me silly.

And just to point it out - the OP says "best describes" not "perfectly describes".

So your definition of "civilization" is a Utopian society? Perfection? A place where science and good will have abolished suffering?

Would it not be better to just allow me to starve and struggle until I find the motivation to earn my own way?

Also, I do enjoy tacos, please. YUM!

No, because you won't just allow yourself to starve and if you are hell bent on not working, you will avoid starvation by stealing shit or robbing people or some other illegal activity and I am still stuck buying your groceries and paying the guy to watch you. Of course, the larger truth is that the vast majority of people who are in need of me "buying their groceries" are not just sitting at home, smoking pot and watching TV because they are lazy. A great many of them are working their asses off at full time jobs with low wages that subsidize my comfort (like cleaning my hotel room when I go on vacation and making it possible for me to afford to go on vacation) and NOT sitting on their asses smoking pot and watching TV.

If not wanting to waste money on a fruitless effort to force what can not be forced is silly, then I am silly.

I don't like either one of those. Neither are particularly descriptive, nor do they encapsulate the nuances and the multivariate conditions of a properly supported political belief.

A man said to the universe:
    "Sir, I exist!"
    "However," replied the universe,
"The fact has not created in me
    A sense of obligation."

If "I am my brother's keeper, and we are all brothers one with another" then I'm shit out of luck.
