| moderat-e/o-r Location: boston Posts: 11,184 | torture story http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/02/04/fam...ure/index.html this is one of the sickest things i've ever heard. their penalty should be a taste of their own medicine. |

| Skeptical Patriot Posts: 7,746 | I agree, and personally I would support something a bit harsher (and more final) than "their own medicine". But what's the point here. I'll wager nobody here will take a contrary stand so I don't see any debate. The manner of punishment, perhaps? |

| moderat-e/o-r Location: boston Posts: 11,184 | eh.. i didn't really post it up for debate to be honest. it's definitely news though. you got a point though.. basic imprisonment doesn't exactly seem like justice to me. and the fact that they didn't harm 2 of them, while they did that to the others.. can't understand that, along with everything else. |

| Skeptical Patriot Posts: 7,746 | That they didn't hurt their 2 "favorites" tells me an insanity defense wouldn't work too well. The legal defense of not knowing right from wrong is not there as they spared the 2 they liked. This tells me they are just rotten scumbags and a complete waste of skin. I'd be happy if they quit breathing my air. |

The girl could have feared for her life, but I think it more likely she sided with the "parents" and believed anything they told her. I'll also bet she didn't get out much. Maybe not tortured but I think a "normal" life for this girl wasn't happening.

I'll bet the guards will let the inmates know what they've done and were they're sleeping before they even turn up. I'd expect one of them to probably commit suicide, probably the guy, within the first year. Used to be. My understanding of the situation now, as told to me by people who have seen the inside of prison, is that it's not the same and even the most depraved are accepted. Of course, some are not, but a lot are. You just can't get good ethical jailbirds anymore, it seems.

anyways.. from what i learned in the 1 criminal justice class i took, was that they generally try to separate these sorts of criminals from people like rapists and murderers. usually, these people get placed in solitary confinement, which sucks, but not as much as getting gangraped by a bunch of homeboys. there've been lots of cases like this from what i've learned.. what the hell drives someone to do such things?
