EU diplomats propose boycotts, divestment, and sanctions against Israeli colonialism

A report sent to the European Union on Monday by its member countries’ top diplomats in Jerusalem and Ramallah proposed state-level boycotts, divestment, and sanctions against Israel’s illegal colonial infrastructure in the occupied West Bank. These recommendations, unprecedented among Western nations, herald a breakthrough for the growing Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

I'm a supporter of the BDS movement, provided it is targeted and not forcibly imposed. What are your thoughts on the BDS movement, especially in light of these developments?

The settlers and the Israeli government don't seem to get along terribly well as it is. In fact, last time I checked there were having problems with acts of terrorism committed by Israeli settlers as a result of trying to explain the concept of Palestinaisn owning land.

I'm not an expert on what will keep the Israeli government motivated, but some sanctions might help.

The more you complain, the less I care about your problems.

it is too early to tell what action will be taken reagarding the proposal. but i can speculate that BDS movement have no chance. i don't see how BDS movement will diminish Israel's strong influence over Europe and USA. as for the movement itself i tend to agree with Noam Chomsky

BDS is hypocritical to the high heavens. Anything that targets Israel alone can be attacked as antisemitism and "unfortunately this is with justice". It harms the "whole movement" It harms the Palestinians and this is so obvious it is probably intentional. It is a gift to the Israeli hardliners and their American supporters. "You may as well just join AIPAC and be done with it".
i dont think BDS movement is hypocritical nor it is intentionally harming Palestinians but i have my doubts about its effectiveness against Israel's influence on Western Countries.

Sounds like a good idea. Not sure about its prospects. It is nice for the diplomats to talk nice about it, but at the end of the day the diplomats have only the powers delegated to them and these do not include the ability to unilaterally impose sanctions. The true powers that be will either back this or not back this and until I hear their say on the matter I have no firm idea whether this could pass.

The US probably won't agree to it, especially not during an election year. But maybe Europe will. We shall see.
