| Molten Ash Location: UK Posts: 130 | And another interesting link "As Iraqis prepare to hold a landmark election the BBC News website resumes its daily Iraq log. For two weeks, we will be publishing a range of accounts from people inside Iraq about their day-to-day lives. In our third instalment, we hear about a wave of uncertainty that has swept the southern city of Basra, the thoughts of an American soldier and the concerns of a voter in the Sunni-Triangle town of Hit." http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_depth/...og/default.stm |

| Politically Corect Location: Charleston, South Carolina Posts: 27 | The message that most of the world is sending out is that American's are trying to persuade other countries to go against the "American People". I'm not saying that the war is correct, in a way, but I'm stating that most of the Iraqi's aren't doing as they should. Whether American's have the right to go into their country and try and control them is another issue all-together. Blogs have been erupting everywhere lately. From Egypt, to Iraq and back to the America's where 14 year old girls are creating them feveriously. I'm endulging in a few at the moment, and I'll respond to them periodically through another thread. |

That will determine if the pro blogs are correct, or if the global media is correct in the mood and predictions. The Iraqi people, by going to the polls are demonstrating the desire for a 'new Iraq' regardless of how they got to that point. I wish them well and hope for the realization of a stable republic. | moderat-e/o-r Location: boston Posts: 11,184 | i'm already reading that there was at least one car bomb and a couple mortar attacks.. doesn't look like the weather's going to be very hospitable for voting. i wish them luck, but i also don't believe this election will make much of a difference in the areas where all the problems are. and so, this election will have very little consequence in stabilizing the country. good article here: http://www.debka.org/article.php?aid=972 |

The election itself means nothing. It's if the Iraqis themselves can make it stick will be the telling point. |

| Volcanic Erupter Location: Mexico City Posts: 4,772 | An Internet posting claiming to be from an al-Qaida linked group, which had earlier threatened to kill voters, warned Iraqis on Sunday that "Democracy and representative councils, brothers, is part of the religion of the infidels. ... Accepting them is ... renouncing Islam." http://apnews.myway.com/article/20050130/D87U7A280.html |

Those guys just have made a "time-lapse progress". Using XX century technology with their minds in caves (still), that must be noticed. | |

"Democracy and representative councils, brothers, is part of the religion of the infidels. ... Accepting them is ... renouncing Islam." This statement is the religious zealots smoke and mirrors campaign. Brothers - just who do you think these zealots are killing now. Maybe now the nationalistic pride in a free Iraq will take root and the Iraqis themselves will remove these religious cancers from Iraq. I am not naive enough to think that all is well in Iraq, but I do think that those brave Iraqis who risked their life to vote - now have a reason and a hope to see a new Iraq.
