I suppose it may be more suitable in the General Discussion forum, but was not sure. If a moderator reads this and finds it more suitable there, please move it with all my blessings given in advance. "The WAR in 2020" Author: Ralph Peters Copyright 1991 I just read a book for the second time in the last 5 years. It is a fantastic book, extremely well written, and beautifully laid out. The scope is immense, and it appears the author from both his credits, and his writing, is a master at tying in all of the angles to give a story both depth and believeability without being boring, or monotonous. I could not recommend a work of fiction any higher, with possible exception to some of Dick Marcinkos books. (which are only written as fiction due to the DEMAND of the Department of the Navy.) I usually don't prefer fiction over factual writing, but this book spins a tale that I must say is very close to what we see happening in our world today, 14 years later. The uncanny similarities do not end there. This book is haunting in the fact that much of what the author speaks of being the downfalls that led to the outcome of the novels ending, is happening in reality today. We are seeing real-time precursors to a logical train of thought, that one could only wonder if the possibilities of this being a work of fiction, or a work of educated guessing. The author makes no reference to "the New World Order", though its evidence is seen throughout much of the novels premise and foundation. I truly ask all of you, who enjoy reading, to go out and BUY THIS BOOK. READ IT, it should be marked down to nearly free by now in most bookstores, and could probably be had from the local library. 607 pages of the best authored fiction I have ever seen. The book has been acclaimed by all of the major book review organizations, and again, I ask you to read this book. "The WAR in 2020" Author: Ralph Peters Copyright 1991 Ralph Peters was a U.S. Army Foreign Area Officer specializing in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, where he has travelled widely and speaks a variety of local languages. He is the author of two previous novels - "Bravo Romeo" and the New York Times Bestseller "Red Army". Please, read this book and post your comments if any. I am awestruck at the sheer volume of similarities to our current plight in reality. It was fascinating and at the time, about 1992, I think, it interested me more than Clancy's better know work. I see Major Peters' name in links to US foreign policy and I wonder if he is on board with the current militarism and Empire by the Pentagon... A very fine work of fiction, prescient in some ways. Whenever citizens are seen routinely as enemies of their own government, writers are routinely seen to be the most dangerous enemies. --E.L. Doctorow |

It was much easier to read for me, since it was detailed, and I like a lot of detail if it strengthens the story. I personally, would say yes, a better novel but definitely not the same story by any means. More like a sidekick of 1984, instead of an attempt at replacement.
