the debate that exists over Iraq is more about the US's new doctrine of war than it is about concerns it may be taking more than its fair share of oil, which it is doing as well. France and Russia were in Iraq for the oil, but they didn't set up a global doctrine of pre-emptive war to justify it. This is what makes the US a special case.

This is inanity, you question a superpower’s capacity to establish global doctrine, or just the US’? What is meant by “global doctrine”, would this be like Colonial Mercantilism in West Indies, the notion of self-defence, that infamous Monroe Doctrine, Manifest Destiny, sustainable development, Containment or Domino Theory? The concept of pre-emptive war is established in international relations and has been exercised before, in fact it dates back to the US War with Britain in the Great Lakes. Maybe you think, in this instance, pre-emptive war was not justified, based on the evidence. Perhaps you might consider how things seemed then, before the gringoes scoured the place for WMDs.

I think we should forge on ahead and not listen to the mal-contented screed coming from the left and get it over and done. They'll never be happy no matter what is done so why pander anymore to the politics of it and just get the job done. Let the crybabies cry a river when the effort has been brought to fruition, the terrorists have been put in their place, and Iraq has the benefit of a new democracy.

I’d forecast more than just democracy in Iraq, this will be the case in at least Afghanistan as well, if all goes according to plan, the US will slip the Saudi oil choke-hold, we’ll get an end to international Islamic fundamentalist terrorism and democracy across the Middle East to boot.
