| Sword of Truth Location: Elmira, NY Posts: 225 | Fleecing of america - Election Style Fleecing of America - Election Style Within the past 2 years, the Bush administration has endorsed many elections, however, no election was nearly as important than financing those around the world. President Bush has spent more than sixty-five million dollars fostering Ukraine’s political atmosphere. This aid was dispersed by four foundations including three subsidized by the U.S. government: “The National Endowment for Democracy, which gets its money directly from Congress; the Eurasia Foundation, which gets money from the State Department, and the Renaissance Foundation, part of a network of charities funded by billionaire George Soros that gets money from the State Department. Other countries involved included Great Britain, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Canada, Norway, Sweden and Denmark.” Officials claim that the financial assistance does not constitute as a interference in Ukraine's election contrary to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Officials cite that the sixty-five million is but share of the one billion the State Department spends each year establishing democracy worldwide. The money “was funneled through organizations like the Carnegie Foundation or through groups aligned with Republicans and Democrats that organized election training, with human rights forums or with independent news outlets.” The International Republican Institute received over twenty-nine million dollars last year to encourage democracy in Ukraine. Headed by former State Department official Lorne Craner, the IRI established meetings with top U.S. officials. Vice president Dick Cheney, Assistant Secretary of State Richard Armitage as well as Congressional GOP leaders met with Yushchenko in February of 2003. “Grants from groups funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development also went to the International Center for Policy Studies, a think tank that includes Yushchenko on its supervisory board.” “The U.S. Agency for International Development also funds the Center for Ukrainian Reform Education, which produces radio and television programs aiming to educate Ukrainian citizens about reforming their nation's government and economy. The center also sponsors press clubs and education for journalists.” On the Net: U.S. State Department: http://www.state.gov Center for Political and Legal Reforms: http://www.pravo.org.ua/ International Center for Policy Studies: http://www.icps.kiev.ua/eng/ International Republican Institute: http://www.iri.org National Democratic Institute: http://www.ndi.org National Endowment for Democracy: http://www.ned.org |

| Playful Location: Groningen, the Netherlands Posts: 805 | And this is bad how? Or is it good? What is your oppinion? I'm confused.... Anything in the way of Tsar Putin and in favor of 'westernization' is good in my eyes. And the election was rigged... In the eastern city of Charkiv (more than 1 million inhabitants), 99% of the population voted... not surprising: 95% voted appearantly for Yanukovich... (the current prime minister and pro-russian guy) more of these "large turnouts" have been reported. Not to mention other vote-rigging techniques... you've got to hand it to them: those eastern europeans sure are creative... http://abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200411/s1249234.htm |

| Sword of Truth Location: Elmira, NY Posts: 225 | Personally, after listening to various news coverages all day, It surprises me how indiscretely our elected officials syphon the life blood of our economy. 1.) We should not be medalling in others politics.... 2.) We should not be allowing congress nor the state dept. to be back-door handshaking with former employees, for multi-million dollar (no bid) contracts for civillian espionage as well as sabatoge, 3) How are Our officials teaching other countries to have successful elections. We are still counting ballots in ohio 4) If we know that the government manipulates radio and tv in other countries (why cant we realize this?) what do you think they are doing here? is it theory still? 5) With all of the money that the gov has taken out of ss and not placed back in, compared to the 15% hike til 2049, why not start by placing the one billion there... 6) I could definately go on..... |
