| Volcanic Erupter Posts: 8,663 | That is most interesting. What if the federal government could offer all people in the USA free wireless internet server groups? With only one small hitch being that because it would federal and funded by tax money the government would own the net and could monitor or censor it as so directed by Congress. Or else it would have to be set up like the Post Office. Hmmm? Wireless welfare for all of us computer dependant masses - only home based companies on the Net like e-bay would have to collect taxes on all items sold to help pay for our free wireless server use. I am surprised I was the first person to respond to this most interesting post. If the government could establish a educational program that would be the same for all states and all kids - both rich and poor - via that free wireless internet then we could have standard testing done via those server groups. Etc. That might save us big bucks when budgeting education? They could even look to outsourcing and hire teachers in India to answer e-mailed questions from the students? Lots of new ideas could surface if we had governmental free wireless useage for our home and busness computers. Gee folks - this is a hot topic indeed - you should start talkin' about it. I could even download free speaches from the "shared files" at that neat-o political webpage. Groovey eh? Presently I was told that Verizon charges people about $80.00 a month for wireless services - so if a city or other governmental identity wanted to handle that project at a next-to-nothing rate, I am sure they would get the public votes needed to do so. Can you name a governmental agency that manages to efficiently and effectively fulfill the functions it was created for? | Hot Lava Posts: 925 | Nothing in this world is free; ESPECIALLY not things paid for by taxes! Coercive taxation is the moral ( and sometimes literal ) equivalent of Armed Robbery; some thug shoves a gun in your face and demands your money. You're still paying for the service, same as before. Only now, in addition to wireless service, you're also paying all the paper-pushers that accompany any Gov't-run scheme. TANSTAAFL, people. |

| Citizen #21521 Posts: 2,599 | Also, just to remind everyone, there is no such thing as free. Free wireless Internet? They're paying for it with taxpayers money - your money, in other words (assuming you have a job). Always beware when the government says FREE. Usually it means they're going to raise taxes, or cut funding to another department (like education). | Logic Via Reality Posts: 653 | The only thing being cut in education is the amount of education your kids actually get. They'll (The Schools) cut the amount of pencils and paper and other supplies you used to get free and still have salary increases. If he government cuts the money to the schools the local government and school officials see to it your property tax goes up. George Bush kicks ass and takes names in 2005!! |
