Here in California we must pay a extra sin tax on gas and that money is used (in theory) for highway repairs.

Now they have invented a technological box that can be installed in a car, this box can tell how many miles you drove (since the last fill-up) and also if you use the freeway system or if you used only "surface streets". The amount of tax you pay per gal would depend upon the readings collected by that box.

I assume if you use both the freeway and surface streets you would pay more taxes, and the more miles you drive the more it will cost you in taxes. In other words, the more road useage the more you pay because you have caused more wear and tear to the streets.

Now if you have an economy car and get more mile per gal instead of driving a gas hog that gets less miles per gal you could end up paying more taxes over-all for you gas (per gal).

If you go around with a two gal can and buy gas only for your lawnmower then that would be tax free. (hmmm?).

Now they ( who ever works in government, not sure of names) have proposed this new monitoring device and Califnornia might put the law into effect soon, as soon as all cars have a chance to get the new gadget installed in their cars. People who are visiting from out of state would not be required to have a gadget and would be charged the normal "old tax" per gal.

The issue of pravacy has come up, for the box could potentially be used for other things, in a time-sensitive trial - or just the idea that the government is tracking your every move is alarming to some folks.

And I wonder what else could be monitored with technology for special taxation?

In other news - President Bush is expected to appoint Miss Rice as the new Sec. Of State. She would be good front man for the job he said because she is so wholesome, reports indicated. Wholesome and sweet. Aha.. its'ent love grand? In my speculative opinion Bush Jr has a real crush on that gal. Yep, if I were ever going to start an unfounded rumor that woud be it - that she is the secret lover of our country gentleman. But folks down south don't speak about such activity in a traditional sense.

Well that is my news report and my gossip for today.
