It has always been the unspoken policy to allow people from Mexico and South Ameirca to fill certain kinds of jobs here in the USA, the whole farming industry is dependant upon that relationship if we wish to keep the cost of food at it's present, somewhat reasonal, price range.

It is also clear that total prevention of that unspoken and needed relationship cannot be stopped or controlled without massive amounts of tax dollars being earmarked for that purpose. And that would mean rasing taxes (not something Bush likes to hear about).

So we might as well come up with some kind of national policy that confroms to what was, is, and shall be the reality of the situation.

Mexico is not the enemy, the only enemy is the attitude of hatred. Hating Mexicans is like poisoning your self. Wise up.

The Constitution and The Law create fundaments for the state, while Money and Politics rule. This is the reality.

Looks like the Republicans in Congress are not ready to go along with Bush's amnesty program. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...n1.html?sub=AR
or truthout: http://www.truthout.org/docs_05/010305E.shtml
Quote:
President Bush's plan to liberalize the nation's immigration laws to allow millions of undocumented workers the opportunity for legal status appears to be on a collision course with newly aroused sentiment among House Republicans pushing for a crackdown on illegal immigration...

But an increasingly vocal group of House Republicans is threatening to undercut Bush's vision, which the president has discussed with passion but has not formally advanced since taking office in 2001. Many House Republicans oppose any effort to grant legal status to undocumented workers, saying it would have the effect of rewarding law-breakers. Instead, they are seeking to ratchet up enforcement efforts against undocumented workers, an approach with proven voter appeal if unproven results when it comes to slowing illegal immigration...

Still, tougher enforcement provisions are popular among voters, particularly in areas where residents feel overwhelmed by illegal immigrants. "If the White House and the Republican establishment think promoting amnesty is good politics, they are crazy," said Mark Krikorian, director of the Center for Immigration Studies, which opposes a guest-worker program. "It has the real potential of turning off their base."

In November, Arizona voters approved a ballot initiative requiring proof of citizenship or legal residency for people to access a wide array of government services. The measure passed despite the opposition of some of the state's most powerful elected officials.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who opposed the ballot initiative, has argued that enforcement measures alone will not solve the illegal immigration problem. "If anyone believes that simply strengthening our borders is the answer to our nation's illegal immigration problem, they don't understand the problem," he said as the Senate passed the intelligence bill last month. "Where there's a demand, there's going to be a supply."
Which is the right side in this? Bush or his Republican congresspeople?

Bush is right, the conservative Republicans are missing the boat.

Tougher enforcement does nothing, as it is, an estimated 4 million crossed the border since mid-December and will be returning in the first week of January (180 thousand a day through Tijuana alone) over 4 thousand a day (rather nightly) on average cross the border illegally.

This is a huge proportion of the population, over a fifth of the Texans, Californians, Arizonans, New Mexicans and Coloradans are born in Mexico, they form the backbone and bulk of the working classes in those and many other states including Illinois, New York, New Jersey and other northern states. They are cropping up in substantial communities across the South too. Figures from the US Census for 2000 situated them at 56% of the hispanics, mostly concentrated in Democrat enclaves, they were then at 12.5% of the population but rapidly growing, though mostly not through immigration.

Can you explain why Bush has a better plan than the Congress, Nunez?
