| Molten Ash Location: San Diego, CA Posts: 105 | Well somebody shot me but I am under the impression that one of the focal points of this nation was to allow its citizens the right of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Then why am I, for some odd reasons, seeing people fighting for the right to limit what another person can do? Why does it exist in our country that we must put-up with the ideals of particular communities, which in turn become half-heartedly supported national ideals? Case in point, and a true can of worms right now: gay marriage. Just using this as an example. When did the majority decide it was okay to limit a group of people? Are you upholding Christian ideals? Why, simply because this is a predominantly Christian nation, do their ideals get to limit the life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness of another person? Do you WANT this to be a Christian nation? And if so, what about all the non-Christians? If your just homophobic, or disagree with the idea of being gay, why do you have to go so far as to limit the life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness of another person? Well hen, I guess this sure isn’t the right country for them to be in. I guess America has to have a particular focus now. We have to strive to protect the rights of the majority. We have to shape our country so that whoever holds the power, can hold that power over those who disagree. We have to continue to add laws to give the majority the rules they want. More taxes on something you don’t want? Majority says so, so you have abide. Prayer in/not in school? Majority says so, so you have to abide. Restrictions on who can/cannot get married? Majority says so, so you have to abide. Ability to track personal information for safety/terroist concerns? Majority says so, so you have to abide. Why are we making so many people abide by “majority rules.” What happened to personal life, personal liberty, and personal happiness that they’ve become public? My questions are this: (and these are not rhetorical) Do you believe America is heading in the direction where personal life, personal liberty, and personal happiness become muddled and complete integrated in government law and become public? And do you believe personal life, personal liberty, and personal happiness could use restoring? I stuck this in government because it is on a cusp. If it needs to go in society, can a moderator please move it? Thank you. |

If the minority is sufficiently large it will have a moderating effect on the majority but not one of control. If you don't like what the majority does, your only choice to change anything is to BECOME the majority. Not a day goes by that I don't see something that reinforces my belief that people are idiots. |

Then Jesus came along and preached theat you are supposed to love everyone even your enemies. Then the religous right comes along and tells you to to kill muslims if they have oil and to hate Homos and Hillery. So I guess it depends on the time of day or season in eternity, just exactly how God feels about anything. |
