| Sedimentary Rock Posts: 3 | In the war on terror new rules need to be written. This isnt war where on major force goes up against another major force. Its one major force fighting small pockets of religous fanatics. These fanatics dont play by the same rules civilizied countries play by. So whatever they do to us (beheadings and torture of prisoners) we need to do right back at them, to discourage more people from joining up aganist us. It like Hamurrabi's Code an eye for an eye. |

The U.S. forces are expected to perform miracles because we give them high-technology weapons, that the military structure is overcharged for by the defense industry. America is well equipped to deal with guerilla warfare, but not with the conventional military. The Special Forces branches are very well suited to train local sypmathizers, plan and oversee operations for gathering resources, arms and equipment and also to work in specialized units that wreak havoc among the guerilla based structure of supply and command. This current approach of using conventional military to this type of reaction from the opposition, leads to heavy friendly casualties, longer duration requiring better, more fortified supply lines, more funding, and more bodies overall. More importantly, it does NOT lead to victory. I have the utmost faith in our armed services, but I fear for the leadership decisions that lay ahead. Our troops are in a position between a rock and a hard place, because the CIC made a bad policy call, and it will be hard not to lose more lives and respect in the world with this eventual : A: Takeover or B: Defeat. I think if Iraq is ever a democracy, it will be short lived, and violent in its end. But hey, that's just my opinion/prediction.
