In Arz. I hear they had a prop on the ballet for voters (or was it New Mexico?) that asked voters if workers from south of the boarder should be banned from using all public resources payed for by taxes. The Prop would have banned undocumented workers form places like public emergency hospitals, libaries, public parks, public schools, and restrooms not on private property. Basically anything of public domaine, like police, firefighters, welfare, and oddly I would think also courts and jail houses?

I was wondering if that Porp passed or not during the last election, can anyone here answer/

Tech.

Yea, I'm in Tucson. I'm embarrassed to say Prop 200 did pass.

Assuming this goes into effect, wouldn't refusing medical treatment go against the hypocratic oath that doctors take?

The doctors can't break the oath by not treating someone they don't let into the hospital in the first place.

I wonder how this law affects the homeless.

Not a day goes by that I don't see something that reinforces my belief that people are idiots.

If you don't ban "undocumented workers" from things(like those listed), you're only encouraging illegal immigration.

The line should be drawn at health care. That's pretty inhumane
to refuse someone medical treatment based on their citizenship; whatever your political ideology may be.

The illegal invaders should be shipped the hell back to where ever they came from and fined to cover the expenses. If they are sick, they should be shipped directly to a Mexican hospital.

Apparently some citizens of non-white background are also disgusted with the illegal invasion and common sense has prevailed.

Quote:
"There was no overwhelming rejection of Prop. 200 in the Latino community, and we knew that going in," said Congressman Raúl Grijalva, a Democrat who was re-elected to his second term in office. "I wish there would have been higher opposition than it was."

Proposition 200 requires proof of citizenship when registering to vote and evidence of legal residency when applying for some government benefits. It also could mean jail time for state workers who don't report illegal immigrants who seek benefits. It passed with 56 percent of the vote, losing only in Pima, Greenlee, Coconino and Santa Cruz counties.

Grijalva said he thinks some Hispanic voters supported the measure "because of the whole idea that 'somebody's taking the job that I could have.' "

In Cochise County, where Hispanics old enough to vote total about a quarter of the residents, the measure won with 58 percent of the vote.

The numbers didn't surprise Iris Lynch, a proponent of Prop. 200 in that county. She said Hispanics "are just as annoyed as everybody else" with the negative impact that illegal immigration has on their lives.

Thanks for the report about the bill passing. I know it was a hot topic for that state.

Now is jail a "publically owned place" - hmmm? is that a "get out of jail" free pass?

I take it you won't be offered an Ambassadorship in the new Bush administration with that kind of commitment to compassion.
