| Sedimentary Rock Posts: 21 | During the debates, Bush mentioned security on the borders (namely the Mexican border). He hoped to provide Mexicans, who were entering the US for an honest reason of working, with a card/pass to get over the border. I'd like to hear some thoughts on this... I personally don't see it's purpose. Yes, the Mexican workers could make a better living with a low-paying job in the US than with one in their own country. However, we don't have enough jobs for our own citizens, so why is it alright if we allow citizens of other countries to come in and take them away from us? This is no different than outsourcing higher paying jobs. It can be argued that the jobs that the Mexicans would fill would be low paying jobs that most Americans would not want. Yes, Americans may not want these jobs. Yes, Americans probably will not be able to make a living, or live comfortably off these wages. However, with the lack of jobs today, unfortunately we are forced to try to make livings off of these low wages. |

This depressant effect on ALL workers wages is the true purpose of allowing de facto unlimited immigration from low-wage Mexico... Low wage jobs in the US still need doing, regardless if there are cheap foreign workers. Employers just have to pay more to get the work done... | Volcanic Erupter Posts: 8,663 | We must remember that a lot of the people come acorss the Mexican boarder from many other countries in middle and South Ameirca. For Mexico that is close to being like a "tourest trade" in thier economy, as peple pass through their country, and even relative to the busness that surrounds that traffic. Remember that if people pass through Mexico to get to the USA they are spending money during that trip - in Mexico. Plus money is generated even by the unlawful busnesses that aid boarder crossing, which money is spent within the Mexcan economy, plus grants provided to that governmet to combat ujlawful human trafficing as well as to help in the drug rings. So they get extra money from that traffic much like they could get from tourism and money to stop it from happening, getting paid from both sides is not a bad deal for a economy that needs all the help it can manage. |

| Molten Ash Location: San Diego, CA Posts: 105 | It's just the most southern part of San Diego county that's fairly indistriguisable from stereotypical Tijuana. Mexican/Latin Americans are the largest and fast growing minority in the U.S. Boy, if I were a political party I'd sure like to have them on my side. Now lets see, how would I do that... |
