OK. So now DeLay isn't trying to get his post back as House Majority Leader anymore. Heehee! Too scandal ridden.

But for that creep things are just getting worse. Seems he and two of his protegés in the House used their influence to assist a ripoff banker help himself to $1.6 billion of Americans' money.

Quote:
Washington - In a case that echoes the Jack Abramoff influence-peddling scandal, two Northern California Republican congressmen used their official positions to try to stop a federal investigation of a wealthy Texas businessman who provided them with political contributions.

Reps. John T. Doolittle and Richard W. Pombo joined forces with former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay of Texas to oppose an investigation by federal banking regulators into the affairs of Houston millionaire Charles Hurwitz, documents recently obtained by The Times show. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. was seeking $300 million from Hurwitz for his role in the collapse of a Texas savings and loan that cost taxpayers $1.6 billion.

The investigation was ultimately dropped.
My, my. I wonder if the Republicans on this board think that all big bankers ought to get help from GOP congressmen when they decide to rip off the FDIC?

I found this site on DeLay: http://www.dccc.org/houseofscandal/main.html

Cool graphics and clarifies the scandal relationships.

Like Scooter Libby said, "all the tree roots are connected." That is pretty accurate their web of connections has gone undetected quite awhile, mainly because they kept it underground,(kinda like that undisclosed location, Cheney is so fond of.) "Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to decieve."

Ohio Rep. John Boehner has a Hard-on for Delays job......(You cant make this stuff up)

WASHINGTON - Arizona conservative Rep. John Shadegg (news, bio, voting record) jumped into the contest to become the No. 2 Republican in the House on Friday, shaking up a touchy contest about the party's direction in what could be a difficult election year.

Shadegg joins Missouri Rep. Roy Blunt (news, bio, voting record) and Ohio Rep. John Boehner (news, bio, voting record) in the race to replace former Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, who announced a week ago that he would not try to regain the post under pressure from Republicans concerned about his ties to disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

Since Clinton, the difference seems imperceptible to aot of us.

Abortion, and welfare seem to be the last real conflict in the two heads of the two headed beast. Of couse, both approve of welfare, one corporate, the other economically disadvantaged, but both are equally comfortable redistibuting your money.

A well fermented brew of extreme potency.

I was doing a google, trying to find a picture of g.w. bush shaking hands with (or in bed with  ) Jack Abramoff, when I found this interesting page full of Abramoff dirt, I was unaware of before. Worth a look

Vegas without rules

What the Abramoff scandal is about at the core can be simply stated as: Vegas without rules. And what the politicians are arguing over is the biggest slush fund in the history of the world. Democrats don’t want to eliminate it. They just want in on the action.

Who owns Florida's gambling boats? No one is certain. There is virtually no state or federal oversight. No one licenses the operators. No one ensures that the games aren’t rigged. No one ensures that the boats aren't used to launder money. No one investigates whether organized crime is involved.

And while ex-felons can’t vote in Florida—as many became aware during the memorable presidential election in 2000—this disadvantage is more than offset, for some, by the fact that an ex-felon can run a gambling boat in the state with no fear at all of flunking the background check.

The reason? There is none.
How does this relate to Delay? Why post this here, in this thread? From the same page:
Quote:
<snip>
When Greek tycoon Gus Boulis was gunned down in his BMW on February 6, 2001 Fort Lauderdale police investigators immediately began scrutinizing SunCruz Casinos. Suspicion focused on the recent sale of the fleet. Boulis and one of the three men had been carrying on a very public feud.

“We certainly aren't lacking in suspects,” said a homicide detective drolly.

Less than two months later, Sun Cruz announced plans to move a 150-foot, $10-million floating casino to the Northern Marianas.

Almost every article we'd read cites Abramoff & Delay's interest in the Marianas being sweat-shop related. Meaning they're in favor of them. Their primary focus wasn't sweatshops. It was gambling.

In my last post Delay had his concealed weapon permit revoked.

Now this:
DeLay Implicated In FL Gangland Casino Boat Owner Hit

Edit to add:

I knew there had to be a bombshell for him to retire after defeating all his GOP foes in TX, but before the election.

OK you win - DeLay's a skunk. Or, have I said something along those lines before. Anyhow it looks (if theses clips are accurate) like the DeLay dam is about to burst.

Maybe the surge will be enough to wash out quite a few of the top tree dwellers - that is esteemed and tenured professional politicians.

DeLay Wins Tex. GOP Primary
Former House Majority Leader Easily Beats Three Challengers

By Sylvia Moreno
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, March 8, 2006; Page A04

AUSTIN, March 7 -- Rep. Tom DeLay, facing an unusual four-way Republican primary, won the party's nomination Tuesday, calling his victory a rejection by voters of "the politics of personal destruction."

"I have always placed my faith in the voters, and today's vote shows they have placed their full faith in me," DeLay, 58, said in a statement issued by his reelection campaign.

<snip>

With 86 percent of the 216 precincts reporting in congressional District 22, which includes all of Fort Bend County and part of three other Houston-area counties, DeLay had 62 percent of the votes, allowing him to win the GOP nomination outright without a runoff. His closest GOP opponent, Tom Campbell, had 30 percent, followed by Mike Fjetland with 4.7 percent and Pat Baig with 3.3 percent.
They almost have to vote again. They cant just hand it to the guy with 30%. What if Delays 60% were just voting AGAINST Campbell?

What if the Texans are finally fed up with the GOP and want a Dem, now?

Don't tell Sonart and RickSP about this conspiracy, Daniel. They can't conceive that the Feds would do anything this nefarious. And If they did there would be media attention like flies on doodoo.

Quote:
“I did a good job,” DeLay told the House of Representatives on Thursday.

“I helped build the largest political coalition in the last 50 years. The K Street project and the K Street strategy I am very proud of.” As well he should be, for it was no easy task to harness the money of lobbyists milking big government for all it’s worth to a conservative movement that pretended to be against government waste while racking up the biggest deficits in our nation’s history.

DeLay was the point man, but his rackets, so basic to the success of the modern Republican Party, will continual to churn without his guidance. Despite a slew of indictments and plea bargains for the DeLay clique — including Jack Abramoff, “one of my closest and dearest friends” — the corporate lobbyists should not be overly saddened by his departure. After all, as DeLay pointed out, “my good friend and my most trusted partner and colleague,” House Speaker Denny Hastert, is still in charge to carry on DeLay’s noble work. Since Hastert welcomed this most recent DeLay embrace, might we not also assume that he too favors the influence-peddling run out of the D.C. house that served as DeLay’s office, by current and former members of his staff?
What a piece of work is "the Hammer"! What corrupt bastards are the Congressional Republicans.
