Some History, and a Concept

I don't know how many of you have ever traveled abroad, but any of you who have visited Venice will probably know the structure I'm talking about, even if you may not have realized it's purpose.
A few yards from the palace of the Doge de Venicia ( Duke of Venice ) there stands a curious sight: a marble pillar about 15 feet tall, with a series of hooks at it's top. Many people ask what this is, and the answer always astonishes them: this is the Doge's Gibbet.
It stands within sight of the bedroom of the Doge's palace; this was literally the first thing this wealthy and powerful man would see every morning when he looked out his window. It was not, however, a gallows for hanging the common criminal: this ornately decorated marble scaffold was only for the Doge himself. In the event that the Doge committed Treason against the city of Venice, he would be hanged from it like a common criminal. And every morning as he awoke, he would be forced to behold the terrible penalty that awaited Treason.

I say we revive this idea. I am not normally in favor of Capital Punishment, but in the case of Treasonous politicians, I could make an eager exception. Let us erect gallows within sight of every Legislative building, let the parasites who sell us behold the instrument of our vengeance should they transgress upon our precious Freedom. Let a marble gibbet be built on the Lawn of the White House, on the steps of the Capitol, and upon the steps of every State House.
Let us send a message to the traitors who run this country that, should they transgress against the Constitution in any way, by whatever means, for whatever reason, that they will suffer the agonies and ignominy of a Traitor's death. If it was good enough for the Venetians, by God, it's good enough for us!

Somehow we gotta get back to constitutional rule first. How could we get such a thing passed with every public servant violating the Document from the cop on the beat to the top of the heap, the POTUS?

But if we ever get the republic underway again(fat chance!) I'm with you, Dunedan. Forswear your oath and you swing...
Might cut down on the desire to run for office, heh.
