They're followed by a few related events of more recent years. None of this is original by any means. I'm just amazed that so many people fail to make certain connections. If anyone disputes these facts, please weigh in; also if you think they are 'cherry-picked' in any way. G.W. Bush, a mediocre academic performer, formed Arbusto Energy in the 1970s and proceeded to mismanage it to the brink of insolvency. He was hauled out of the wreckage by one Salem bin Laden, Osama's half-brother, who purchased many of the shares at a 'nice price'. The Saudis loomed large in Dubbya's world (the bin Ladens owned Houston airport and what-not). After his business failure, the future president was hired as a "consultant" by Harken Energy for $120,000 a year. Harken was one quarter Saudi-owned. Its legal counsel was the firm of James Baker, well known in places like Kuwait and, more recently, Florida. George W. formally checked out of the oil business when he sold off his stock for a million bucks ... just two months before Saddam invaded Kuwait. At the time his dad was president and Baker secretary of state. To me and millions of others there is a suspiciously cosy relationship between the Bushes and the Saudis who, during all this time, were busily bank-rolling fanatical Wahabi projects all over the place, not least the nuttier madrassas of Pakistan and, to a certain extent, the Taliban regime. Certainly the current president of the United States, the country's vice-president, and the president's father (and former president), made their fortunes through their connections with the Saudi royal clique, notably the bin Ladens. To further spice up the incest, there's Frank Carlucci (former deputy CIA director and defense secretary) and his Carlyle Group (tanks, planes, missiles, etc.) which, for example, signed an $11 billion contract for an artillery system with the early Dubbya administration against the advice of the military itself. Under pressure from Pentagon experts, this was later cancelled, but not before Carlyle had made a bundle. Dubbya's dad is a Carlyle pillar. Oil, arms, intelligence, nods, winks, wars -- how brutally obvious does it have to get? Yet, to believe the polls, Dubbya (that's "W" for Winston, right?) the war pres. is headed for victory on the strength of his, well, strength in terms of national security. I'll terminate this outburst by quoting Paul Krugman in today's New York Times: Quote:

You forgot to tell how Dubya found fortune with the Texas Rangers baseball team. That's a cute little story. I think it's time for the Lesser to go back to Texas and work on his ranch...
