![]() Fyrdman Location: Middlesbrough UK Posts: 4,152 | This is aimed at the socialists and communists. I was arguing earlier about socialism and communism with a friend, and he said well why don't you go live in Cuba if you think it so damned good. It got me thinking, I know Cuba is not perfect, its even close to communist, but it is socialist of sorts, so why don't I go there? I can see how you might hate it if your a right winger, and how the government might bother you often, but if you are a staunch lefty, it should be alright. If many socialists from around the world came to Cuba, especially if they were experts in different areas, we could make it work much better and closer to socialism. A new international flabour to Cuban politics would hopefully open up Cuba to more scrutiny, and to more trade. I know it would be impossible to make it work perfectly, but if we can get it to work properly at least, then we can set an example. This would also mean we don't have to have a revolution. Another point would be that people who wanted to leave Cuba could, as people who would be happier in that environment could replace them. Would be like a big commune. So, I propose for all (democratic) socialists then to move to Cuba and build the country we want. If it all goes to hell as I'm sure many none socialists would expect, then its only us fucked over. Edit: This is of course assuming the Cuban government would take us. It would be a good test of how socialist it really is, if they took us, although perhaps slowly, it would demonstrate they are committed to socialism, rather than self preservation. Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. Winston Churchill |

It is authoritarian at the moment, but next year Fidel is retiring and elections are to be held, so hopefully we shall see it open up without its achievements being collapsed. The idea was for socialists around the world to move to Cuba and build it as a modern, democratic socialist country. Then from there it could lead other countries to improving themselves, a beacon for the third world. I don't want to have a violent revolution if possible, and working with socialist parties in the UK is never going to work, but this new idea might. Yeah it pisses me off when people think I should leave because of my beliefs, because I am different. I'm almost against this idea just because it came from someone telling me I should, but my brain is saying it is a good possibility.
