    Jon Stewart Owns

I'm not sure if I can post the video here, but if you're not familiar with the "rivalry" between Stewart and Mad Money's Jim Cramer go to the dailyshow's website and check it out. I wanted to discuss one of Stewart's points. He says he wishes that the media would go back to real reporting so that he could go back to fart jokes. Think its true? If you do, think its a sad state of affairs that the most investigative and hard hitting reporter in America is on a comedy channel?
And why are we in this spot? Is it like the media giant say, they're only responding to ratings and our demands; or are they really censoring information for their corporate masters? There was a case on FoxNews where a team of reporters were doing a piece on Monsanto. When Monsanto got wind of it, they bought into Fox News and then forcably dropped the report and stopped it from ever airing. Is this what we really want? Personally, I was very entertained watching Stewart make Cramer cry.

Jon Stewart is hardly a "investigative and hard hitting reporter". You will note that most of the information the Daily Show mentions has already been aired by the mainstream Media. Notice where TDS actually GETS their video clips from.

What Stewart does is bring the existing info into an alternate spotlight, and puts things in a clearer perspective at times. But he is hardly the sole source of news.

If the idiot sheep would actually pay a little attention to the ACTUAL news media, they would already know these things. And if they were capable of putting related news items together to form a pisture, people wouldn't be calling The Daily Show a news source.

Wherever you get your information is an ACTUAL news medium.

Unless the traditional mainstream media is making things up (which happens from time to time) they're getting it from somewhere else as well. It doesn't really matter how information gets to your brain or my brain if the source is the same.

What makes a man turn neutral? Lust for gold? Power? Or were you just born with a heart full of neutrality?

That's a matter of opinion then, and I don't share yours.
The Daily Show is more of an editorial medium that takes news from primary sources and usually repackages it.

Perhaps, but traditional news media gets the information from the sources and creates the stories which is sometimes used by others.
It's more like you don't get NEWS, you get second-hand information. TDS doesn't do the legwork. It's like a copy of a copy.

That's simply a subjective position. Maybe you should watch something else, or read a newspaper.

    And why those specific times?

    Sadly, no, it isn't.

With the explosion of cable and the Internet, it's more profitable to try and corner a niche market with a news boutique, than to try provide actual news... meaning objective reporting of events. That means entertaining your niche audience by just reporting what they want to hear, not objectively reporting all sides. That's not "news", it's propaganda.

What Stewart is railing against is the explosion of "Infotainment". With hundreds of cable channels competing for the 24 hour news cycle - without actually having that much serious news to report - more and more they are depending on flashy political mud wrestling shout fests to attract audiences who just want their own biases reinforced.

Recall when Jon Stewert went on CROSSFIRE and did not even attempt to be funny, but rather dead seriously laid into hosts Paul Begala and Tucker Carlson with both barrels for essentially trivializing and Jerry Springerizing political news, focusing on sound bites, personal attacks and horse race trivia that has nothing to do with informing Americans about anything important.

Which is the very same reason Stewart lit into Ken Kramer, for turning important financial news into Crusty the Clown does financial, and getting the important stuff so totally wrong.

Bingo!! Folks here have flattered me that I appear to be well informed. But my single most important source of information is from simply reading my daily paper every morning (and listening to NPR). On almost any issue I address, more often than not the points I bring up are tidbits I remembered reading about in the paper, which makes it easier for me to find detailed sources on the internet.

So it breaks my heart to see that newspapers are rapidly disappearing to the very balkanized new boutiques that are destroying objective news reporting.

The problem is, they'll never get ratings high enough, or low enough, to bring about a revival of real news. It's not entirely a matter of ratings, but what appeases advertisers.

The paper is one thing, though arguably going down hill, but broadcast news is a joke. Its infotainment, but its offensive, dumbed down and misleading.
Having been a news junkie in the past, regularly watching CSPAN, you get a fuller story in the morning when news is fresh before the spin takes place. After that its always a repeat of the exact same talking points from show to show.

I'm convinced the mega-networks are competing over who is the biggest joke of the century.
They're certainly not going to enlighten you, as even a good joke might do.
