Search Term: Fifth Generation Warfare

I just saw this search term on another message board, and to look at it at first blush, it sounds like guns and artillery, but it's actually about control of perception of how politics and government are perceived and subverted, among other characteristics.

Fascinating stuff.

Has this topic been discussed yet at Volconvo? I'd be interested in reading the analysis.

From one of the reviews:

This book was first published in 1991, but is as current today as it was 14 years ago. This is because the authors have succeeded in conceptualizing intelligence functions and activities in an abstract, but very accurate manner. Although the authors provide a conceptualized view of intelligence, they also provide concrete historical examples to illustrate specific concepts. As a result the reader is given an understanding of intelligence that transcends current trends and practices within the U.S. Intelligence Community (IC). The book is an excellent introduction to the discipline of intelligence independent of specific agencies or practices of the IC. For this reason the book should be of interest not only to folks with no background in intelligence, but also to experienced intelligence professionals.

It's a good over-view of how the intelligence community works, a bit dry and complex at points. Intelligence gathering is not all about spies and satellites. Where it really becomes valuable is in the analysis. Understanding the gathered intelligence and knowing how to use that to predict trends and behaviors is the real meat of intel. It's an absolutely fascinating topic, IMHO, and one that has implications throughout society.
