Donkey Style vs. Elephant Style!

I've been watching this show on comedy central lately called Root of All Evil. In this show 2 very evil things are presented and 2 opposing forces are brought forth to debate which evil thing is the most evil. I thought this might be a fun thing to do with republicans and democrats.
Lets begin by listing pros and cons. In an effort to get everybody to be more objective, lets have each post contain one pro and one con for each party. After a page of those or so, we can start digging into it and decide which is most EVIL!!!!!!!!!

Republicans have spent 8 years tearing our country apart.
Democrats have done nothing to stop them and offer no viable alternatives.

I'm trying to come up with something positive to say about either party.

Republicans
Pro: Republicans raise the ceiling on the American people significantly by promoting plans that benefit big business. This promotes more jobs in America(although more and more American companies are outsourcing their jobs)
Con: Republicans claim they are less intrusive into the lives of the citizens... yet they tell you who can and can not marry, whether or not you can receive an abortion(if they had it their way), and are pro christianity infringing on every aspect of our government.

Democrat
Pro: Democrats are more interested in our relationships with the rest of the world than republicans. This directly affects our future success because the world is getting smaller by the day. Simply put, we have to run our country like a business in a small community. If that business has a bad reputation, it is not going to do so well. Dems understand this. Republicans think our power will force people to deal with us forever.
Con: Unions! Don't get me wrong, my dad was the chairman of the union in the Oklahoma GM plant for years in the 80's and I know that unions can be very helpful.. but, forcing votes to be made public on unions is evil. It creates an unstable working environment, and it also points out supporters to management and potentially makes their jobs a little less secure. I also think that, in some cases, unions hurt businesses bottom line enough that they can not absorb drouts the way a non unionized business could.

8 years wasn't enough time for the bush admin to see the problem or do something about it? When Clinton was in office people loved him and he created jobs and helped the economy, it was lenders and banks that screwed up the economy.

and then, as if his chest had been a mortar, he burst his hot heart's shell upon it.

They did call for more regulations, but the vote never passed.

If memory serves, the republicans had the house for the first 4 years of Bush's presidency.. they could have done whatever they wanted.

Republicans
Pro: They are very skilled at winning elections.

Con: Borrow and spend philosophy has bankrupted the nation. Favors tax cuts for the wealthy and promotes the cheap labor philosophy eliminating the middle class creating extreme wealth disparty. Republicans favor religeous fundamentalism which has served to eliminate modern science and technology from mainstream education. Republicans have been in charge over the last 20 years and the result of their actions has brought this nation to a serious economic collapse not seen in 80 years. Republcans are very selfish and not interested in long term green policy.

Democrats
Pro: Favors tax cuts for the middle class which would normally help achieve long term economic prosperity. Democrats are much more compassionate to poor and dissadvantaged individuals. Democrats generally favor universal health care for all Americans. Democrats are interested in the world environment.

Con: Party that knows how to lose elections that have been handed to them. Democrats heavily favors gays and other fringe feminism which serves to help cause them to lose the support of the general public. Democrats support excessive litigation which has served to bankrupt corporations and bring down overall economic properity.

OP is a no brainer. Republicans much more evil.

I don't think you're reading into it enough. I was hoping to have people come to the middle on this one and have an honest debate. I , personally, think we need both mentalities(dem/repub) to prosper. I think the last 8 years have been shameful for the republican party, but there have been great republicans in the past.. Barry Goldwater, for example, was a great republican. Ron Paul is a good republican. There are those that don't just spit out soundbytes on both sides of the aisle. They have extremely differing opinions on how we should run the counrtry, but they come from a position that is not self serving.. a position that aims to serve the people and do good by them... and I think those good people are the reason we've had any measure of success in this country. We need dems to serve the little guys and make certain that the big guys aren't taking advantage of them.. we need republicans to keep the american dream alive for the people that are willing to strive for it. Together, they balance each other out.

Perhaps the best post I've seen in quite some time on this forum. I would reiterate that having both around balances out the equation.

Republicans
PROS Believes in the people being able to take care of themselves. Seeks to lessen the impact of the government in the life of the every day American. Believes in cutting out wasteful programs, and lowering taxes. They believe the government should let the chips fall where they may, and success will be found by those who take it. National defense is of the utter importance. Excel in winning during times they are expected and should lose.

CONS Party has been hijacked by the religious right. Has led to cases of war-mongering (despite common Republican values). Lately has shown a trend of using religious ideology to dictate social policy, a no-no. A blatant disregard of the environment and fiscal policy has also been absent as of late. The party also lags behind making social progress. Believes that students should carry concealed handguns on campus. And their education programs suck.

Democrats
PROS Fights for the "little guy". Environmental regulation and planning for the future are of utmost importance. They are also usually the ones at the forefront for social reform. Education is correctly believed to be among the most important things the government can provide to its people. Living in harmony with the world is the foreign policy.
CONS In Washington, their incompetence can never be underestimated. Believes in increasing the role of the government in our lives, and increases taxes. Programs I consider to be wastes of taxpayer dollars are encouraged. Does not always do best for businesses. In the face of terror, has often been weak and pushed around. One last thing: Unions.

In the end, it pains me to say that the Republicans are the root of all evil. Granted, I only say this because of the neo-conservatives and religious right who have hijacked my party and completely skewed its image. Republicans in DC do not represent their constituents. The Democrats, they're too incompetent to be any trouble. And at least their problems help others sometimes.

I'm sorry, but I'd agree with you if you were right.
