| Hot Lava Location: Texas Posts: 1,229 | http://chrenkoff.blogspot.com/2004/08/good...raq-part-7.html A must read, tons of links to sources, for anyone who thinks we are failing in Iraq. And this is part SEVEN. Oh, it's really too bad, isn't it? -- http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/050121/480/watw10701210224 Hahaha, that's funny. Liberals are so silly! |

"A group of men stood outside an ice cream store in west Baghdad's Ameriya street, staring at a television screen as the ice melted on their hands... The distraction was a video of the song "Bortuqala" (Orange) by the Iraqi singer Alaa Saad, and the troupe of gyrating gypsy dancers accompanying him." I'd like to thank Charlie Hodge, bringing me scarves and water. |

| Volcanic Erupter Posts: 8,650 | Such good news is like what we got at the gas pumps. First gas cost about 98 cents. Then it went up to about 250 per gal. Now it dropped back to 199 per gal and everyone says "good news, cheaper gas at the pumps". Yeah, but still not as cheap as before. So they might have restored a few things in Iraq, but things are still not even close to how it was before Bush cluster bombed Bagdad just for TV showing of "shock and awe". |

| Hot Lava Location: Texas Posts: 1,229 | http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/spl/hi/pop_...poll/html/1.stm Here's some more good news. And technosoul, 5 bombs does not weigh out any good news. That's the dumbest form of defeatism. Do you understand the difference between tactical failures and strategic failures? And Bush has not cluster bombed Baghdad, you are just making shit up, now. At the end of our conversation, desperate to secure U.S. support for Iraqi women, she gave me her wedding ring as a reminder of how important this funding was for the women of her country." But strategically, Iraq remains a basketcase and will continue to do so. After a year, they still have no reliable electricity, phone service, oil production or even minimum security. Our allies and their foreign workers are being systematically driven out and violence remains the number one concern. As in Vietnam and the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan - in which we both constantly rattled off how wonderful life was for our wards - we can kill a million insurgents, they don't care. They simply need to keep the country in chaos and keep killing Americans, day after day after day, and nothing we do will stop them. Oh, and by the way, regarding our OTHER 'successful' war... Violent Afghan militants gaining control I don't suffer from insanity... I thoroughly enjoy it | |

| Hot Lava Location: Spokane, WA Posts: 782 | Young and Comrade- Watch the adhominem, insults aren't debate. Sonart- I completely agree. So far our so called "victories" are superficial at best. They're years maybe even decades away from achieving independence, and if they do it will be even longe before they can protect that independence. The only possible way for Iraq to be able to remain stable and maintain an acceptable standard of living, they need to be able to protect themselves. This means having a well trained, well equipped police force. Also, they political and religious divides are extreme, so it might result in having to divide Iraq into three seperate countries. However, it will take a very long time for the ethnic and political groups to accept the changes, which means decades. I'd probably say that in 30-50 years, Iraq will achieve some sort of stability. |

![]() Son of X51 Location: San Diego Posts: 3,568 | Allah be praised: ... The American presence is proving to be an unexpected boon: "The Americans have the best garbage. We're very happy with it," says Fadhel Khalaf, as he and other slum dwellers scour for "food, boots, tarps, construction supplies, wooden pallets, jerry cans and other items that military personnel discard in the mistaken impression that they are no longer useful." Hopefully, the new Iraq will generate opportunities Saddam ever did. I'd like to thank Charlie Hodge, bringing me scarves and water. |
