Smear Campaigns

Is anyone else tired of them? It just irritates me so much. I would be less likely to vote for a candidate if they used a smear campaign. It gives the feeling that they think they can't win unless they make their opponent seem worse then them. If that candidate is really the best choice or at least a good choice for the office, they shouldn't have to do things like that.

So, what are your opinions of mud slinging?

I'm really not affected by it, any smart politician knows that they have to do it.

I had hoped that Senator McCain would take the higher road, but it appears he fell well beyond my expectations. A lot about him has changed, and I don't know if I can vote for him any more. A protest vote may be in order.

I'm sorry, but I'd agree with you if you were right.

Hmm, I used to like the man, at least, but now I see what washington has done to him, maybe it just took a little longer with him than most.

I think he was great right up until he clinched the presumptive nomination.

If you are of genuine Presidential stock/material, you shouldn't have to run a smear campaign.

Unfortunately, the modern political climate is such that running for public office has mudslinging included as part and parcel of its process.

Annoying.

Given that Thomas Jefferson was involved in mudslinging, I'd have to disagree.

Smear campaigns only work as well as the people receive them. If people only looked beyond the smear and investigated the claims objectively, the campaigns wouldn't work. The Labor party in Australia didn't run a heavy smear campaign unlike the government at the time and they won.

I don't care too much for smear campaigns.

I mean. eh. maybe if they're done badly, then I'd be discouraged to vote for somebody.. *cough* McCain! *cough*

Because he was a Great American Hero?

Have you actually researched Jefferson's views and behavior?

If you did so, you'd find that all sorts of disqualifications existed, mostly on the basis that the man flew in the face of all that Americans now believe to be good and decent.
