Sarah Palin- McCain's VP pick?

I have stated before that a VP pick really is to get votes, but should also be competent. Palin would get votes and is more than competent (it could even lead to the first female US president). If McCain picked her, he would definitely get many of Clinton's women backers, a long with many other women. But take a look at the 1st term governor. She is impressive.

(1) She has been a successful state legislator, city councilman and mayor. In fact she over-saw the fastest growing community in the state - Wasilla. If fact she was elected president of the Alaska Conference of Mayors.
(2) She believes its a priority to reduce greenhouse gases. But she is not ignoring the gas crisis. With rising gas prices she supports more drilling.

(3) Although she is against gay marriage (something important to the Republican base, but not to me personally), she vetoed a bill that
barred the state from granting benefits to gay state employees and their partners. In effect, her veto granted State of Alaska benefits to same-sex couples
http://www.gay.com/news/article.html?2006/12/29/6

(4) She showed fiscal conservatism: She used her veto power to make the second-largest cuts of the construction budget in state history. The US$237 million in cuts represented over 300 local projects, and reduced the construction budget to nearly US$1.6 billion. In an era where the government spends too much money on wasteful projects its refreshing to see someone who cuts that fat. Trust me she must of gotten a huge amount of crap from the special interests for this.

(5) She has a high approval rating. 84% approve and only 5% oppose. In an era of poor approval ratings, her approval ratings is awesome! LOL, what is the Democratic Congress approval rating down to - last I heard 16%!
KTUU.com | Alaska's news and information source | Stevens may have work cut out in reelection

(6) $5 billion budget surplus for AK! Yes yes oil prices have helped AK, but even with that the surplus is amazing! Never under-estimate governments apply to squander surpluses and profits. She has shown an ability to balance the budget, cut spending in opposition to special interests and has a history of cutting taxes!
Rift over budget surplus widens: Alaska News | adn.com

(7) Knows education is important. Let's face it the better educated a country is, the better off the country is. She knows that spending money in education is a SMART thing to do.

(8) For a 42 yr old, she is HOT!

(9) Has a son in the military and serving overseas. So that makes 2 people on the ticket with children in the armed forces (don't forget McCain has a son serving in the marines!)

I hope it happens, because I would be more than excited to vote for Palin for President after McCain. See the article it could happen!

Is mysterious website tipping off McCain's VP?

Palin is the pick to put McCain over the hump!

Alaska Gov. Palin Tops Speculation About McCain Veep Pick

DENVER — Speculation about who John McCain would name as his running mate focused on Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin after reports circulated early Friday that two short-listers — Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty — were out of the running.

Adding fuel to the Palin possibility was a report that a charter aircraft from Anchorage owned by a McCain supporter had arrived in Dayton, Ohio, where McCain has scheduled a noon ET rally to announce his choice.

Palin is considered a rising star in the Republican Party. She is the state’s first female governor, the mother of five — and at 44 is its youngest chief executive.

Just gave a good acceptance speech. Confident, assertive. Worked her way through the PTA then school board, city council, mayor, state ethics committee and governor. Took on the corruption in government and oil in Alaska. Husband was commercial fisherman, then Union Iron worker on the North slope. 5 kids. Oldest son in the Military, joined 9/11/2007 and going to Iraq soon. Today is her 20th wedding anniversary. Pro life, lifetime member of the NRA.......Im getting a boner. Makes even this atheist want to stand up and proclaim God bless America!!!! Back before the Primaries I had pretty well resigned to the fact that it was going to be a Democrats turn to be President. For the first time I think maybe, just maybe McCain can win this thing.

She's an amazing choice. I had never heard of her until now, but her resume is quite good. Think fast eddie wants to call a mulligan on Biden?

I'm sorry, but I'd agree with you if you were right.

Very {good} pick! And now we can watch the emotionally led spiteful and vindictive women of the Senator Clinton camp as they all flow toward President McCain. And with that flow, we can all continue on this our merry way. Indeed a very {good} pick.

A good pick for McCain, and it will support his chance of becoming president very well (which I believe he has already stitched up). For me, I would not want her as a top politician in Canada, but for America, it will probably work quite well.

Atheists should be humane to animals because they know animals only have one short life.

Can the Palin Pick Lower Gas Prices?

YouTube - Kristol: McCain VP choice will make gas prices plummet

According to this guy it will. I assume he believe the speculators will predict she will be help to help us getting drilling done in ANWR, meaning the future prices will be less!

Funny how each candidate pretty much picks a clone of the other as a running mate.

Obama picks old, white, experienced.

McCain picks young, non white male, inexperienced.

I can't believe what I'm reading right now. I guess I understand the rationalizing behind having a first-term female running mate at such a crucial time for us. It's very controversial, so everyone is now distracted from the fact this is McCAIN you're considering for office.

The same McCain who stated "a hundred years in Iraq". The same McCain who sang "bomb, bomb, bomb...bomb, bomb, bomb Iran" like war is something to joke about! The same McCain that admittedly knows very little about economics during a time of economic crisis. The same McCain that BUSH said would make a good president. We all have seen what his decisions have earned us. No matter what happens, I'm not looking forward to the next 4 years, but Jesus f'ing Christ! Wake up people.

SH*T IS NOT OKAY!!!

So let's get this straight -- McCain's sop to the Republican right wing (who never shut up about "personal responsibility" and "family values") is a woman who is now going to abandon a four-month-old baby with Downes syndrome to pursue her political ambitions.

Please let me know if I've got my facts wrong here.

You have a problem with women working outside the home? I suspect vice Presidents work fewer hours than State governors. Why would she need to abandon her baby?

The Vice President of a country works less than a governor of a State? Really? I guess that explains a few things.

You're right. The only thing worse would be Obama having the baby left to die unattended hours after a botched abortion delivery... since that is the law he voted for in Illinois.

Why would she need to abandon her baby?
Cuz (if you'll pause to think for a sec) she's going to be pretty busy over the next two and half months: the fourth, fifth and sixth months of her handicapped baby's life.

That's why.

Well now, max, which one of these two is being held up as the Saviour of Conservative Values? Naturally Obama is the anti-conservative boogeyman to beat all boogeymen.

So your point ain't the point.

I guess I must have missed it that she was being held up as the savior of anything (since she has only been the VP pick a few hours now.) I thought she was just some in-your-face, red meat thrown to the Democrat PUMA chicks by McCain.
