They're certainly not perfect, are they, since they couldn't keep John or Bobby Kennedy alive, couldn't keep Ronald Reagan from being shot or Gerald Ford from being an uncocked chamber away from being shot.

Not even by a longshot, Xyzer. Regurgitating unproven bullsh!t doesn't mean diddly. The investigation into Whitewater - just to name one "Scandal" - in which the Clinton's lost money 10 years before being elected President, involved 2 Special Prosecutors, 4 Congressional investigations, a grand jury, 6 years, $80 million and an international press feeding frenzy, and came up with a grand total of jack sh!t on either Clinton. As did the subsequent unending list of baseless "Scandals" investigated by the Republican congress.

Given that the Clintons were probably the least wealthy inhabitants of the White House in its history, it speaks volumes that they were also probably the least corrupt.

As to Clinton's lying under oath... so did Reagan and so did George Bush pere and so did his nominee for the Supreme Court, Clarence Thomas. So what? Only the VRWC decided they could make a crime out of it.

As I always like to point out, given our current idiot President, whose lies and criminal negligence are slowly destroying our country, it's reassuring to know that we only impeach our President's for really serious offenses... like lying under oath about a casual affair.
.
In the case of Ford the (almost) shooter was a well known member of the Charles Manson family. And no in the Secret Service agent noticed that a member of one of the most famous and radical cults in Amreica was in that small crowd that had gathered, until the gun was observed?
Don't they have any training from the FBI on what and who to look for?

We now have ID cameras that can do that but are they being put into use, as we do at airports? As I recall the guy who shot Reagan was on the roof or a roof very close to where Regan came out to get into his limo. No one was smart enough to put a Secret Agent sniper on the roof to watch for a shooter who might take advantage of so a likely position? That is just plain old "lax" security.

When Bush Jr was running for President they had super-security, you could not even get into a rally to hold up a protest sign as everyone was monitored at the door. They did not even allow anyone who was a regestered Democrat to get in the doors let alone known radicals. ( other then members of the Bin Laden familty who they were in business with, of course ).

Methinks you must be thinking of someone else, Techno. John Hinckley Jr. was right there, maybe 20 ft from Reagan, standing next to a wall. You can see the cops and Secret Service converge on him in this series of photos. The guy in the blue jacket and dark pants next to the wall sorta looks like Hinckley... maybe?

Looks like your photos are worth a thousand words. I did not pay much attention back then to that event and recall mostly Reagan saying "I should have ducked" in the hospital. I thought the report mentioned something about one bullet passing through Reagan from the top to the bottom, I guess that was someone else. So many people getting shot at back in the old days. I recall thinking it was odd because it is mostly the Democrats who get shot down and not the Republicans.

It was also odd that the brother of Hinkley had an appointment to dine with a member of the Bush family the next day. Bush Sr was Vice President at the time and would have become President if Reagan had died. The Hinkley family owns a major oil company and had donated large sums of money to the Bush/Reagan election efforts. The suspect had a pre-established plea that he was insane from watching a TV show called "Taxie". A unconfirmed theory cirulated that the oil people who are behind the Republican party wanted Bush Sr as their President but he did not have the right personality, so they put Reagan in as the strawman "front guy" and then bump him off so that Bush could run the government "their way". The plot failed according to the unconfirmed conspiracy theory.

That is strange - talk about "it's a small world".

This is simular by the way with the link Bush had with the Bin Laden family concerning middle eastern constuction operations. With Bush Sr and another famous Republican attending meetings (even during the 9-11 attack ) about business deals related to the Bush oil interests.

It's even a smaller world. How strange all this is.

Each family had a nut who do something radical.

Hmm? Makes one wonder what the heck is really going on.

The reason I was pretty sure the shooter was ground level was a part of that drama that will stick with me forever, the image of that Secret Service agent in the light blue suit, Tim McCarthy, who stepped forward to take the bullet. I always figured that he saw the shooter and was looking straight at him for that split second as he stepped forward to place himself in front of Reagan. I was actually looking for that image when I found far better ones.

Am I alone is considering this a tempest in a teapot? Good grief, if we are expected to lose all respect for a politician who misspeaks or says something stupid now and then we should have never reelected Bush. I try to never allow a single statement made by anyone to color my perception of that person. That we are encouraged to do that in cases like this just speaks to the irrationality we're subjected to during political election time.
No. It is much ado about nothing.

I don't recall such admonitions following Michelle Obama's "Barak could get shot going to the gas station" remarks.

Another false accusation counting on foolish hypersensitivity to carry the day.

What more should one expect from the candidate of “you can’t talk about that”?
