Idea's on Law [British compared with American]

I agree with most of todays laws in Britain, yet there is still room for massive improvements. In Britain we have a tight yet flexible law, some restrict us form doing everyday activities and some give us freedom to do whatever we like. America, i think, has the best set of laws out of both nations. Now why cant the british government take notice of this fact and do something about it. In Britain if some one is to commit murder, take anothers life, then 15 years in prison is no where near enough as punishment. Families are broken after such a tragedy, yet the criminal still has the freedom to serve half his sentence and return to everyday life. I know that when a violent person comes round and causes considerable damage to an individual, it destroys a family. When the individual is permanently disabled after trying to protect their home, children, friends and family there is still no justice! We in Great Britain, have to wait over a whole year to go to court after such a tragic event. The individual cant spend a normal day out with their children, nor their family. Yet the offender only gets a maximum of 5 years in prison, i ask, is that fair? British government needs to get a grip on its law, and make some radical, but sensible changes, to protect its people! This is my opinion as someone who lives in Great Britain! When a individual takes a life over here, they get a maximum of 15 years, yet on good behaviour they can be out of prison in approx 7 and a half years! The family is left broken, and has a large hole left in it. Yet in America if someone takes a life, they could end up with the death penalty, which at the end of the day is fair! Though it doesn't just effect the individual it can also effect their family as well. So where do we stand on this? What is the next step? Who knows?
