    "We Need More White People!"

Coordinators for Michelle Obama, campaiging for her husband at Carnagie Mellon University's Skibo gym, noticed that there were only minorities behind the podium. They told some of the people to move saying....

“Get me more white people, we need more white people.”

Thats odd, since Obama got a percentage of white voters that was only a few points less than Hilary, in most states.

Ok, I thought this incident was general knowledge by now. I guess not.

I'll edit it to include the story.

Because Obama doesn't want to look like he will not be color blind in his presidency. He does not want to look like he supports Blacks over whites.

Same reason that Clinton has her token Black supporters behind her.

Thats news, since again, the number of whites supporting him is lower by only a few points, and that could simply be because of his policies.

Its an issue for hilary because shes getting 10 % of the black vote. not so with obama and white voters

Obama will lose if he comes off as a "black" candidate. That is why when people found about about Wright, action was swift and merciless. Wright's comments embody the very image that Obama has had to suppress the entire campaign. If he gets pigeonholed as another Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson, it's over. He has to maintain a delicate balance wherein he's just black enough to get the self-hating white vote (and to be able to pull off empty rhetoric with no substantial examination of the issues) and not so black as to make the allegations of playing the race card stick. He may not be worried over his ability to get the liberal white vote as opposed to Hillary, but I think at this point, he's probably more looking toward the general election where his ability to entice the middle will be crucial.

Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame. -- Song 8:6

When the coordinator said we need more white people it was because they were trying to diversify the crowd itself. I'm not taking sides on this one because I can understand both arguments. But I do believe ultimately the coordinator was trying to establish the fact that Obama does not only represent minorities. The comment was not directly related to recent polls and supporters, only to this event.
I make no claims to the level of my own intelligence, please be as critical as necessary and correct any mistakes I make as I am here for two reasons: 1.)To learn. 2.)Fun.

Some are trying to portray him as another Farrakhan, which is questionable. These things happen in politics. Ralph Naderaccused John Kerry of engaging in political "dirty tricks," for example. However, Obama seems more capable of retaliation.

It just shows how stage-managed these elections are. They'll say something if it makes you feel good, and they'll try to have the right "representative samples" available. I understand it, but I think it's stupid.
