Peace through superior firepower

The Chaser - Superior firepower (#5)

How can superior fire power possibly bring peace?

Can someone explain this twisted logic?

If you have the biggest guns, spread all over then your in control. If those you control are so afraid they won't even attempt to fight back then you have peace. No violence is used because of the existing threat of force. Thats what the death star was for.

Personally thou I think that bumper sticker is an after 9/11 item from back when we wanted to kick terrorist butt.

Isn't that, i don't know, terrorism? I thought we were supposed to be against such things...

No, we're supposed to oppose terrorism when it happens to us and support it when "we" do it to "them."

Does it hurt to think up such a vapid comment?

Holding a big gun and saying "Don't mess with me!" is not the same thing as hitting someone upside the head with a big gun in your hand and saying "What are you going to do about it?".

No, we're not. And we're also selling or giving away guns to other countries, and plenty aren't only waving weapons around.

Agreed, having a dog in your backyard complete with "Beware of Dog" sign is not the same thing as holding that dog on a leash and telling your neighbor "If you don't give me what I want, I'm going to let go of the leash."

What makes a man turn neutral? Lust for gold? Power? Or were you just born with a heart full of neutrality?

How often do people rob bars where they know cops hang out? It is the stuff of comedy, but think about it. Theives aren't going to rob a place when there's a high chance there will be guns pointed back.

Hussein had no interest in peace back in 1990. Why? Because he had the most superior firepower in the region. When the U.S. led coalition moved in to take him out... he was finally ready to "talk".

I agree, there is a bit of irony to the logic... but even our diplomats go into discussions with the power of their nation's military backing them up.

Well its quite simple actually, say a village is torn apart by two gangs fighting each other and using and abusing the villagers, then the police or army turn up and with their superior firepower blow both gangs away, peace is thus restored.

The only significant period of peace in a major region was obtained in the post Caesar era during the Pax Romana. This peace was kept on the edge of the legionaire's sword. Superior firepower is the only way of keeping peace that has proven itself on a large scale for any real period of time. Granted, this has a way of blowing up once your legionaires have all died and your glorious conquering leaders have turned into a bunch of fat perverts, with hairy, illiterate barbarians raping your women. and this leads to a 500 yr or so dark age that snuffs out yours and dozens of others civilizations advances for far longer. So,on the balance, it looks like like a little war every once ina while is better than an enforced peace.

We do have peace coming, unfortunately when all the excitement dies down because theres no wars anymore, we will realise we have something much worse, an enforced peace which is total slavery to a NWO.

Amazing! The U.S has not only the largest military in the world, but the largest military in history, and its people are still as scared as baby rabbits. A few extremists knockdown a couple of buildings and the most powerful nation in the world collapses in fear and reprisals, and abandons all its so-called values. Torture. Repression of rights. Unlawful surveillance. How pathetic. How sad. How disgusting. How shameful. How American.

A large military protects an entire country, not single persons. A little fear is the mark of sanity, so long as it does not rule your actions. I also don't get the impression that americans are scared constantly, the only thing americans are consistantly is bored and ever changing.
