Fickle public = fickle politicians?

I'm trying this again with a less inflammatory premise.

I'm going to take the Iraq war as an example only. If there a debate over whether the Iraq war was right or not, I will start crying, which no one wants...(right?)

A few days before the Iraq war, public support was in the high sixties to seventies. Therefore the politicians were for the war, however when the popularity turned south, so did the politicians.

Also this isn't the first time politicians have flip flopped based on public opinion. So my question is whether we can blame politicians for switching positions when it accurately reflects the public they represent.

Do you think that a politician is acting responsibly when he votes to send his own people over to another country to kill or be killed, based on whether he thinks he is being popular or not.

Good point, on the other hand, if we have them base it off of their own morality, we get GW Bush. He does everything based off of his own view and ignores everyone else.

Popular is just another word for how much of your public likes what you're doing. When you job description is to serve them, you respond to what they ask. Popularity is just a negative term.
