"it is my opinion that neither Obama or Clinton stand a chance at becoming our next president ....... not even the slightest chance" -simple simon

simple simon, I respect your opinion. But it's very likely that they will win. I find it very likely that Obama wins. Hilary Clinton is right behind him. I love it that you go against everyone else, and a person like you can be a powerful to the right people. But the political war between Obama and Clinton is too big. And too many people are betting on both of theme. So my final statement is:
Frankly, yes they do.

It imperils not only you yourselves, but the whole of humanity,

i dont think this country is ready to elect anyone other then a white man as president ...... again just my opinion ... though i do think it is very accurate and will bear out to be fact
The people in this country would elect either one if they are have the platform and history to appeal to the majority of voters. Hillary has too much baggage and Obama is too far to the left but if the press gets behind either one they could still pull it off.

Notice how the media has shaped the democrats campaign. Maybe it's just me, but it seems that from the beginning it was, "Obama or Hillary? Obama or Hillary?" That's pretty irresponsible. They didn't really want that other candidates to be seriously considered, though they have to go through the formality of giving other candidates some degree of exposure. The vast majority of serious voters are not kids, but they're treated that way. In the process, there are candidates some may have never heard before. They are excluded from serious consideration and forgotten.

That's because there is a necessity, with our short attention-spanned culture being as it is, for the party to get some name recognition and buzz going early in the game: way before primaries. The Hillary machine started up way back in 2003 or earlier. They weren't planning to try in 2004. 2008 was always the game plan. Hillary already had name recognition in spades; Obama had to work harder for it. Nevertheless, showing a strong front early in the game (meaning before primaries) is essential for fielding a viable candidate. In this, the democrats have a huge advantage over the republicans (most of whose candidates were largely unknown and/or uninspiring until recently) and it may make the difference for them just as the lack thereof hurt them in 2004.

and the woman candidate is well known, generally respected and well connected to an immensely popular former president

Ok, that's one against. We'll see how the rest of the count goes.

Well if Obama or Clinton win the nomination, which it appears one will do, then they have a great chance of doing. I personally think the US is ready to vote in a Black man or women. Especially a women. Don't forget 50%+ of the population is made of women.
so far i am 1/2 right .... Clinton's campaign was a joke at the end .... her own party was begging her to stop

Certainly not because she was a woman, simple mon, and she was hardly a joke at the end. To the contrary, she's garnered huge respect, not to mention political clout.

It is true that 50% of the population are women. But we are (no matter how horrible a fact it is) a Christian nation. And the die-hard Christian women are not Clinton fans. To some of these women, the woman's role in life is to be in submission to their husbands, raising children and managing the home... not a life in politics.
And Ayn Rand is on record as having said that no woman could be President. Can't argue with that, right?

Racism stinks for miles, in XXI century. U.S. is not the exception.
Whether Obama breaks that barrier, we will see, soon.

We have a choice between the Obama dream and the McCain nightmare.

And those who favor discrimination are now in the minority.

So, you are wrong.

He (or they) have a very good chance at winning the general election as long as the voting process does not go a-fowl.

@Technosoul

Recall the Democratic Party primary, along with surprized outcomes. It should give you some issues for consideration.

There's plenty of baggage in both campaigns to be considered possible "nightmares". Obama just paints a rosier picture.

I'm sorry, but I'd agree with you if you were right.

Oh, on his own merits, Obama is a terrible candidate. He's just far better than McCain.
