It's a great idea if it stops inbound nukes from destroying a city.

China isn't a "threat" to the US, and nor is the US a threat to China.

Both nations seek strong economic links - capitalism and trade is the one factor that keeps China and US from killing each other.

However, because Chinese and US issues can sometimes collide (ie. the US wants to be Thailand's best friend, but Thais are beginning to move under Chinese arms), that will be the flare-ups.

Most flare-ups in past have been over small issues - the spy plane incident (when the US spied on China and got shot down), or the US bombing of a Chinese embassy during the invasion of Yugoslavia.

But if you notice these "little incidents", most of them are quite small, and not enough to cause any major conflict. Keep in mind that today's modern global economy means war is devastating to all sides alone. A SINGLE MISSILE in either Washington, Beijing, New York, or Shanghai is enough to cause devastating economic losses to China and the US.

However of course, like in every country, strong hate exists. Chinese ultranationalists (mostly scattered groups) hate the US for cultural imperialism (for example, opposing American sexual liberalism and interracial dating). However I suppose many rednecks in the US are also against Chinese social influences in the US.

Ideological loyalty is the act of giving your soul to a vague concept, to be manipulated by people smarter than you.
