Why does it have to be a major news source? What's wrong with a local news source reporting something original instead of just regurgitating what Reuters or AP spews forth?

Because the information appears on the front page, and is often a first impression for newcomers to the site. If the big talking point was say, an article from the 'Reading Chronicle' (pronounced Red-ing, by the way

) then I doubt we'd make such a great impression.

Besides, this was the format decided by Sean and/or Jason, and this is the way it stays.
