Volconvo's opinion 2008: Voter confidence

Are you confident that our voting process accurately represents the voters choices. why or why not?

Do you feel United Statian voters, in general, are confident in this process? why or why not.

does anyone disagree with the pattern of Volconvo opinion threads within the election forum section?

No, I am not confident. Our system of voting should be nationalized, not by the states, and it should be Instant Runoff Voting which would help end the myth of "lesser of two evils".

It should also have a verifiable paper trail (for both voters to take home, as well as a paper receipt for the ballot count) as well as be in one format from coast to coast.

I don't think most people are confident with our current systems process, for many reasons. Our failures in election rules, standards and recent history of foul-ups is world-wide now, and its time for serious change.

would you trust Jimmy Carter to head up election reform?

From what I have seen of Carters program in other countries, I think I could trust Carter as long as there was also independent, non-partisan participants helping and over-seeing the effort.

No.

Why you ask, why Diebold, and the schmucks that brought them to us are still in their positions of power.

I have ceased caring what John, or Jane Sixpack think about anything.

The problem here ( and notice that you're asking for it ), guess who would appoint such people to such a committee?

We don't want to encourage the *"Executive" to get involed in this process in any way.

* Denotes that the author thinks the "Executive" was not truly the winner of the last two elections.

I am confident the election system in the US is thoroughly and completely rigged.

Even if it's not, the idea that America is a democracy is laughable. All you get is a choice between a couple of the most elite, rich and powerful scumbags the country has to offer, because the current system only allows them to compete.

I wouldn't think it's completely rigged, there's too much vitrol between the two parties for someone not to blow the whistle. some candidates certainly benefit from inconcistencies, but not enough for it to be completely rigged. And, yes, democracy is impossible, but the american people have allowed it to get this way, so that's another form of democracy.

Hmmm, I don't know about that. I think maybe we should go back to the way things were laid out in the Constitution (before the relevant amendments).

Well, I don't have a problem with a uniform ballot format with a portable record (for the voter) showing that the voter voted (and maybe even how he voted).

Agreed. Of course, even something as simple as equal ballot access and equal access to inter-party political debates would help.

I'm really getting sick of people saying things like "the two parties" as if there are only two political parties. THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER NATIONAL POLITICAL PARTIES IN THE UNITED STATES!!!!

No. I would not trust any Democrat or Republican to head-up election reform.
