This amendment would take several years to pass, and would certainly not be ratified in time for this election. Even so, however, there is a very important reason for this constitutional rule - with the current illegal immigrant situation, the threat of a very large group of immigrants entering America and essentially attempting to replace all persons of power within the government with new immigrants is a serious problem. Therefore, I don't recommend that we make a constitutional amendment for one man to run for President when it could open the door to a multitude of problems. |

That said, I don't support a constitutional amendment so that Ahnald can run. With 230 million people, America has an adequate pool of possible candidates already. | |

![]() Hot Lava Posts: 1,660 | What "invasion" are you talking about? Foreign born Americans can serve in almost every major federal job except for president and our nation has not seen anything close to an "immigrant invasion" in Washington DC high government positions. Why would a foreign born president trigger an "invasion" when none has happened despite ample opportunities to do so (in theory)? This slippery slope argument needs some lubrication. |

However, I do think that we are more at risk now due to high rates of immigration, legal or otherwise. The reason this couldn't have happened earlier is because we simply did not have the sheer number of people coming across the border that we do now. However, I will admit that the risk of this happening is low. I still don't support a constitutional amendment to make way for one man, though. |

Besides, the stance on Presidents being born here is a wise one - we don't want our President to have divided loyalty. What if Austria become a rogue state and decided they were going to launch nuclear weapons at the United States unless we gave them $1 trillion in cash? Would Arnold be willing to wipe out his boyhood home? The fact that the question can be asked is the reason for the requirement. It is in place for good reason and the damage that it could cause in the future trumps the 4-8 years of having a president we like that may or may not do a good job. No sacrifice, No victory |

| Volcanic Erupter Posts: 8,663 | Well, most agree then that actors and entertainment personalities should be allowed to be a president even if we must admend the rules so that forien actors can get into the White House desk. That would reduce the number of poltical people seeking office which might be to our advantage no doubt. Also with Canada in charge we could have universal health care and with a merger we would have lots of "national wildlife areas" to boast about. Hmm, I just noticed my nickname is hogging up this whole forum. I should take Bushes advice and "give 'em a break". |
