Chavez to expel foreign critics

Well, he can dish it all right, but can he take it? Nope. Apparently not. :)

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has vowed to expel foreigners who publicly criticise him or his government.

"No foreigner can come here to attack us. Anyone who does must be removed from this country," he said during his weekly TV and radio programme.

Mr Chavez also ordered officials to monitor statements made by international figures in Venezuela.

His comments came shortly after a senior Mexican politician publicly criticised the Venezuelan government.

"How long are we going to allow a person - from any country in the world - to come to our own house to say there's a dictatorship here, that the president is a tyrant, and nobody does anything about it?" Mr Chavez said during his "Hello, President" broadcast on Sunday.

"It cannot be allowed - it is a question of national dignity," he said.

This is what happens when there is no free press! And you have a government that is doing everything it can to suppress the people!

I'm not surprised. Chavez is just another authority figure.

I question your source. After all, America are doing a massive Propaganda campaign against Venezuela. For one, the situation with the News station. The official story is it was merely critical of Chavez. However, that very station, helped and supported Coup makers, try and kill him. You do that in America and see if the Government won't shut you down.

The BBC are British.....and are quite happy to be independent from the US point of view. Where have you been, the moon?

The Venezuelans can't see BBC. Chavez just shut down the biggest and most respected independent news station in Venezuela, now having the media become state run.Now he wants to expell any foreigner who criticizes him, aka any foreign press that writes something he doesn't agree with.

This sounds like silencing the press to me. Where have been, the moon also?

You sure your not going to give you points for that one mod!

Comprehension issues, GHook? I'm explaining to Maybe-Not why the BBC is a respected source which is independent from the US...feel free to make a contribution.

I agree BBC is still a respectable source of news despite the recent scandals.

I just explained why that TV station was shut down. They took part in an attempted Coup-De-etat.

Being owned by a Brit, doesn't make the BBC a trust worthy source.

I'd still like to see another source. The full story is with a 90% chance being concealed.

What is so surprising to you Maybe-Not? Does this sound uncharacteristic of Socialist nation?

Chavez is a Communist Dictator, not a socialist and he is following the Castro play book IMO.

Communism is Democratic. You can't be a Communist Dictator, the same way you can't be a Liberalist Dictator - it goes against the general idea. The term to be used is Stalinist, or Fidelist. And i disagree on Chavez being a Dictator. It's another Anti-Communism propaganda act. To make the sheeps believe Communism and Democracy are enemies.

Communism and socialist are two kinds of societies. Socialist is a Free society with a Planned economy where everybody's equal. Socialist needs a representativ Government. Communism is Socialism without the need for management. Direct Democracy will take care of it.

Socialism is a system where everyone becomes equally poor since they tax the heck out of achievment to pay for massive social programs to extremes like socialized medicine.
You take away the right to achieve and become better that what you were, then you get communist or socialist.

I am afraid that Hugo is going to develop one and put it into effect as a law, since it is not easy to take that guy as a reasonable one.

It's not anymore or less better than CNN or yes foxnews!

Just because its produced by the Brits over Americans doesn't mean a thing.
