Aristocracy. When most people hear this term, they think of the modern use of aristocracy (i.e. the nobility). Aristos means Best, and Cracy means government or rule (by) in Greek.
Rule by the Best = Aristocracy
That is what we could easily have, with quality candidates. We choose the best people to lead us with some big concessions, such as a year limit before they come under review, known as re-election. |
Comrade, for a communist (I assume), you aren't very egalitarian. Only "the special elite" can run? Which is worse having the bourgeoisie run things or a "gifted vanguard" in their stead?

The founding fathers wanted a republic, biased from Montesquieu's writings; however, Montesquieu points out the flaws that it might face.

Originally posted by Montesquieu's the spirit of laws It is natural for a republic to have only a small territory; otherwise it cannot long subsist. In an extensive republic there are men of large fortunes, and consequently of less moderation; there are trusts too considerable to be placed in any single subject; he has interests of his own; he soon begins to think that he may be happy and glorious by oppressing his fellow-citizens; and that he may raise himself to grandeur on the ruins of his country.
In an extensive republic the public good is sacrificed to a thousand private views; it is subordinate to exceptions, and depends on accidents. In a small one the interest of the public is more obvious, better understood, and more within the reach of every citizen; abuses have less extent, and, of course, are less protected. |
Moreover, is it even a two party system anymore? The corporations back who they want, and it turns out to be a "battle of the richest". There hasn't been a fair election since 1972, all else has been an election of corporate candidates.

Funny thing about original ideas, its like playing music - you can always get better.
Did you ever hear of Demarchy? Quote:
| How about limited oligarchy? Isn't that what we have in America? Point being, labeling types of governement is not easy. |
Yes, America in actuality has a corporate oligarchy. There are six major media corporations which tell us what to think (Vivendi, AOL Time Warner, Disney, Bartelsmann, News corporation, and Viacom). They hold all the cards, think about it, they tell us what the rest of the world is doing. This gives the US varying views of the world based on reports. This gives the people the idea "Hey the nation of
x hates us, we should invade." Further, it doesn't help when the thief-in-chief maunders on about "the axis of evil", and how every nation the news says hates the US, is in the axis.
